I've read estimates of 30% to 50% of new car sales will dry up when robotaxis become ubiquitous. If robotaxis faires go below .30 cents/mile the average family will save more than $6,000/yr by giving up car ownership and taking taxis everywhere. Given the cost of insurance, maintenance, and gas it will be cheaper to take robotaxis everywhere than it would be to drive and maintain a car that was given to you for free.

All of these American and European auto makers that have delayed production of EV's, or who have not reached profitability with EV's will be so screwed in the very near future when most of the major market has either gone EV or are flooded with cheaper imports. Tariff and protectionist measures will only work so long but when you make only ICE cars with a shrinking market your future is indeed dim.

@12:36 An *SDV* (Software Defined Vehicle) isn't a _customer_ facing aspect. It's an OEM _creation_ and post-purchase _maintainance_ aspect. The OEM is through with the *SDV* the day it leaves the factory, but an *SDV* can live on through many owners and many alterations/repairs, until it is scrapped and sold for parts. (†) †) Even then, the part carries its history with it. Think of it as _BlockChain_ for _auto parts._

I asked another KZbinr and they said they didn't have any proof of this. I have a 2024 M3 and it does seem to be able to see very well at night and in the rain and snow. I'm really curious how Tesla is doing this.

@@taefravis When did I say Tesla sales are declining? I said they are not competitive to those buyers who actually compare models in person as well as on spec sheet. Many people simply assume a brand is better without research and make a purchase. Tesla still has brand loyalty in China for now, but for how long? given they are objectively not competitive vs at least 5 models I can think of off the top of my head that I checked out in person. Model Y was my top choice before my research and ended up last.

I live and breathe Tesla, and 99% of my life savings is in Tesla stock. I drive a Tesla, but man that Xiaomi SU7 is gorgeous. Once they get FSD I may even switch over. Chinese have the early movers advantage for sure, and their economic model is perfect. Selling cheap cars to the masses will eventually give a LOT more profit, then companies like Rivian and Lucid that rely on expensive models.
@bendungee166918 күн бұрын
7:53 I have to disagree that China needed Tesla for them to get into EVs. China was already into it selling Buses and other big vehicles before this. They just wanted to see how Tesla made their EVs, so they could copy them. Also, I wouldn’t be surprise if China counts EVs from Tesla as exports in EVs. Technically it is made in China then exported. We know Tesla has a lot coming out of China.

April 22, 2014, Tesla CEO Elon Musk delivered the first Tesla Model S sedans to Xiaomi founder Lei Jun and Li Auto founder Li Xiang. The two were among the first 15 customers in China to receive the car (Tesla Weibo).
@bendungee166917 күн бұрын
@ Yes, true. I was in China 2008 and they already had electric mobility before my visit. They have been growing over time just like Tesla, when OEMs would shrug off Tesla technology back in around 2014 time frame.
@taefravis17 күн бұрын
I am not sure if that is true or not as Tesla has been so instrumental in the adoption of EVs round the world that we will neve know. However I do believe it is at least true that without Tesla Chins would have found it far harder to get into EVs as it was Tesla who set the standard for SDV with cars getting smarter with age not dumber. Tesla sold a ton of EVs in China that then resulted in Chinese consumers expecting and demanding that all EVs are SDVs which in turn forced Chinese carmakers to follow suit and thus show consumers round the world how inferior legacy auto makers EVs are and how superior Chinese EVs are. So I think that China certainly did benefit greatly from Tesla setting the stage for EVs and what is expected from them as well as the production numbers they exported from China and thus helping China.
@bendungee166917 күн бұрын
@ I would say we both agree the world of EVs wouldn’t be were it is today without Tesla. Another opportunity GM lost when they killed the EV1 and 2, that people loved so much. I would also add that Tesla set a quality of safety that wasn’t there in China with their EVs.
