There is research being done in Tsinghua university on a EUV lithography cannon. It is much larger than the ASML EUV lithography machine. Once that finalizes, Chinese semiconductor companies will have the tools to make nodes of 5nm or less with higher yields.
@oceanwave45027 күн бұрын
China will have ASML-similar EUV machines. China's C919/C929/C939 will replace AirBus in the long term (China + BRI countries). VW/Mercedes/BMW/Porsche will vastly reduced their size (only able to focus on luxurious segment). If this trend is not deindustrialization for Europe, then what is it? 🤔

Yes, I have been saying that the Chinese tech industry has a huge momentum and also that it's highly integrated and automated. I saw one video of a fully automated Chinese smartphone factory and another video of manual assembly of iPhones in India. The contrast is huge. The scene from the Indian factory looked like something from the previous century.

China may not be able to make the smallest 2 to 3 nm chip yet, but it can easily produce 5 and 7 nm chips now. It's just the yields are not as good as the TSMC (i read reports that TSMC yields are 2 to 3 times better than SMIC). If the Chinese fabs can control the cost and improve their yields, they can certainly survive the sanctions. Besides, Chinese researchers are exploring other types of chips - carbon based chips and photonic chips - to bypass the west's choke hold on silicon based chips. Google just launched its first quantum chip the other day. It's good for supercomputing (to crack encryption, nuclear simulation, etc.) but is an overkill in everyday use.

If China cracks the photonic chips, it will be "game over". They are faster and use far less power. Silicone chips are hitting the ceiling. There is not much room for improvement below 2 nm scale.

Personally I think the west can still compete, the gridlock is the biggest issue, but the first mover advantage is too strong. First mover in soft power, tech platforms, payment platform, media platform etc with europe. It all depends on the alliance being kept together(including japan and south korera). Yes china has first mover on greentech/evs but people don't care about climate change because they don't feel the immediate effects of it, and with energy independence(usa at least), we can stall for 10 years. IIRC we still have 50+ years of oil reserves in the US. Overconfidence instead of hard work will be the downfall for both sides. Russia miscalculated ukraine and china(9 dash line) is probably miscalculating how long the philipines/asian countries would rather stall forever ideologically rather than fall in line. China will be fortunate that it can survive but you cant deny they have misplayed its hand. I'm being realistic, its great that china has its own bigtech/greentech, better than europe being a vassal state now but I feel like europe won't mind(just not under trump)
@bobsmith39838 күн бұрын
China hasn't misplayed anything. It's the world's biggest manufacturing economy and is ahead in 57 out of 64 critical technology fields. Chinese companies file and are granted more patents than the USA and Japan combined. Chinese universities put out more quality scientific research papers than the West. etc..
@billyburton1237 күн бұрын
@@bobsmith3983 I'll assume what you said is flat out true, but again, back in ~2010 they withheld rare earths against japan for a fisherman dispute, look it up. They weaponized trade, which now japan actually has a plan for to terminate their reliance on china as much as possible. The problem is the western alliance not getting together on it but it can be done. You can't just blindly look at the positives, there are very real legitimate miscalculated moves by either previous or current administrations that causes skepticism from other countries just like the USA has done. Time will tell, I'm optimistic but skeptical. I don't see asian countries allying with china because of this, the softpower pull of the US is too strong and most likely they will want to ally with the west to keep balance
@billyburton1237 күн бұрын
@@bobsmith3983 I want china to do well from consumer standpoint, e.g huawei keeps apple/samsung/others in check, etc, but IMO the west still holds all the cards. It hasn't played most of them well but it still has all the cards. I could try to ban china from selling any chinese smartphones that use android. I could and am manipulating the media for every country in the world to distrust and fear china(which is already happening), etc. China is isolated ideologically from most of the rest of the world and technologically(having its own payment, chat, etc platofrms, etc). It's a double edged sword technological wise, because on the one hand they are self reliant/independent, but on the other being no one wants to use bilibili, wechat, etc when they have yt, apple, fb. You are asking the entire world to buy into an ecosystem that is new, has less software support, hardware support ,etc

@ 12:40 , Carl makes some valid points as to how US trade war against China has boomeranged. But what other alternative is available to the USA’s seeking to preserve its technology prowess? Given the rapid growth and achievement of China’s technology the US tech industry will fall behind China even if USA were to do nothing. Essentially, China’s tech industry will supersede USA’s no matter what USA does.
@Aam-xy9vd8 күн бұрын
@ubermenschen3636 It all boils down to priorities. China's political priority is to advance its technological industries. America's political priority is to sabotage the advancement of China. American politicians have their priorities wrong, instead of wasting money on trying to harm others, they need to focus, first and foremost, on investing in America and on American education, so that America does not fall behind.

Trump is trying to fix it, promoting made in USA. It’s just a lot more expensive. Only thing that is potentially cheaper is oil/gas. In the past years or the decade, how much the U.S. oil was produced and the oil export was increased? How much the gas price went down?! I heard the U.S. has become the biggest oil exporter in the world. If that’s true and the U.S. gas price didn’t go down much, how much can you believe the theory of “gas price goes down to reduce the manufacture and transport cost and increase the competitiveness of made in USA and reduce/stop inflation”?! Wouldn’t printing more money and inflation become inevitable or Trump would stop oil exports / taxing exporting oil. Let’s see how it works!

Yap, US has best air superiority BUT it’s useless 😂😂😂 Why? It could cover only empty ocean of 1st & 2nd island chain for 2 reasons 1. CSG have to sail farer distance from China to avoid carrier killer. Red Sea show that US CSG has to sail far away from Yemen which is inferior than China and air tanker is flying duck beside US Navy ran short of Oiler (it happened in 5th fleet) 2. US are looking for secret runway for their air wing (public information) as they believe that their current Guam, Philippines, Japan and Korea air base will be bombard by Chinese missiles. Hawaii is too far. China manufacturing capacity is greater than G7 combined let alone Ship building is 200 times more than US. Besides China manufacturing all drone and parts more than 70% of the world. Yap air wings is the best but just can’t get near to targets to execute missions is a big joke😂😂😂

Mostly said due to Russian Radar and air defense systems. Damage in Iran are done by quart copter drone - not missiles attack. Point is China also bought and deploy Russian S400 few years ago beside their own AD. Additional, China defeated EA 18 Gowler in electronic war fair over SCS Dec 2023 also public. Point is stealth is useful to small country like Afghanistan but not a major advantage over peer or near peer like Russia and China.
