Yes, CHiPS act will help and manufacturing in the USA will continue to increase as deglobalization continues. But across the board tariffs including on products we don't make is baffling. Think about this more logically. We have a limited population. Ben Shapiro did a good break down on how tariffs work and how it doesn't benefit the manufacturing community. Not only do we not have enough people to work every single process in manufacturing, but the majority of products that people want to do are better and cooler products. For example, people would rather make medical equipment rather than a t-shirt. Also Ben Shapiro talked about how most manufacturing companies also import products from China and other foreign nations because we simply don't have natural resources for most products. Tariffs just don't work. Especially in manufacturing. @@silvercat6425

To move most of the manufacturing back here to the US will raise inflation like no one has ever seen . The millionaires that control the money in this country won't take the hit in pay . Those companies pay people very little overseas and make millions . Paying workers here in the US will take a huge bite out of the bottom line and it won't ever happen.
@remixsparten98Ай бұрын
lol, no. Make more industry to fix the prices and stimulate the economy. The entire point is to make sure companies are not dodging their due in exploiting unfair wages, taxes, labor, etc. And promote economic circulation. Cheap dosen't mean economically sustainable.
@samanthajones4877Ай бұрын
@@remixsparten98do you think the people who work in factories in China make a good living? It will be no different for people who will work in factories here if manufacturing came home. If the pay for factory workers increase here or in China or wherever, prices will increase to follow suit making whatever product being manufactured unaffordable for the person working in said factories. Therefore, bringing manufacturing home doesn’t mean our standard of living gets better but actually the opposite will happen.
@remixsparten98Ай бұрын
@@samanthajones4877 That's the point, Chinese workers aren't making a good living, and their government promotes it. If cheap production was the solution to everyone's problems, we'd have slavery and tools made of cardboard, of which China borders, it's economically self-destructive to all, historically and fundamentally speaking. So you're right, having more cost in the US wouldn't help the business lower it prices, but instead help the new businesses that do.

Does anyone here realize the reason our economy is number one is because of the trade we do globablly? If we put tariffs on other countries stuff they will do the same with our products. In 2018, Trump was in Maine. The lobster fishermen's waters were taken over by the EU. He imposed the same percentage of tariffs back to BMW, Land Rover, Mini, Jaguar and Mercedes because the fishermen were being taxed the same amount for fishing in their own waters. Result: The fishermen got their waters back and the EU backed down from their overreach. No tariffs actually happened. Just the threat of it makes powerful entities buckle because the US has such economic pull. It's important to realize this.
@dacream_reaper0493Ай бұрын
@dbsti3006 I just googled and researched this no one backed off they put tariffs on each other until they negotiated agreements. in fact some of them fell through and didn't happen except for a lobster tariff removal. Also it wasn't the same percentage that your claiming it was 10 percent and 25 percent. Again no one wins in a trade war they both just hurt each other economically for a little bit until they came to an agreement, that doesn't help the little guy that buys the products. In fact it seemed America backed off more than the EU did because they threatened tariffs on cars and car parts, which made the US sit at the negotiation table lol.
@dacream_reaper0493Ай бұрын

I have worked as a machinist for many years. A lot of raw materials come from China. A lot of it is really undesirable stock that doesn’t run well. It costs less but when the fight and end result was rough, it doesn’t cost less. Buying the expensive stock from other countries like Germany , they didn’t have the materials from China to manufacture the stock.During Covid, it looked like the market was cornered by China. They were the only ones you could get stuff off of within a reasonable window. From metals to plastics to medicinals to Ppe. The problem is other countries heavily really on saving money by buying from China , subsequently manifesting a corner in the market. They are able to do that because of child labor force and extremely low wages across the board. To save a buck you’re taking money away domestically and providing resources to a country with little to no regulation and or morals. Look what happened to the Uyghurs. Where did taoism go and other forms of religion? Oh that’s right, they destroy religion to make their word gospel. In order to clean and organize , first you must have light to see. Covid put a big bright light on China. After Covid happened and the governments formed an alliance to control the people via media to keep everyone “safe”, opened everyone’s eyes to what China and other countries are capable of. They have been ccp mind control for 100+years, the government says it’s a successful 100 years. Many terrible events have happened in this time, that have been erased from history ie tientementsquare . People see it as this big brother evil super power but it’s really archaic and mostly agrarian, and there are still people that need to eat just like anyone else.

I would 100% prefer to buy a lot of stuff (not everything) made in the US. And most Americans would say this...until they see how much everything would then cost. And that right there should be the stopping point for this conversation with his voters and Trump himself. I'd be okay paying more on "luxury" items that need quality. But when you're talking raw material imports, we can only do so much there. And tariffs hitting early stages of the mfg process seems like the effect would be too widespread to contain it to just certain goods. It's all really complicated, and I think what we should be able to agree on is that Trump doesn't give the impression of someone who fully understands the nuance of it. He has implemented tariffs miserably in the past, so a massive tariff covering most goods from China is tariff...fying.

We have been supporting China through trade for way too long while our own businesses diminish because of it.
@pigeonmanner3296Ай бұрын
@childofgod7023Ай бұрын
@pigeonmanner3296 I agree there are certain products that we can't produce and should still import those, but to import things that we can make has cost many Americans jobs and we are supporting another country to do this... They get richer while we go more in debt.
@irnbrewhahaАй бұрын
@@childofgod7023 I don't know the solution, but I suspect bringing mfg jobs here on a large scale probably isn't it. Being able to make something here isn't the only consideration. Higher wages here vs. wages in China will increase the cost of everything. Trump changing his mind on illegal immigrants might fix that, but...
@ching-yi2007Ай бұрын
I have an economics degree. Manufacturing produces less GDP than the service industry, which is the type of economy US has. US shipped their manufacturing out because US economy is more advanced. US makes more money in service than manufacturing. For example, Apple doesn't produce it's products but can focus their investments on R and D. Their company value is so much higher than FoxConn which produces the actual Apple phones. Bringing manufacturing will bring down GDP and profitability. That is why companies always outsource manufacturing.

Who is going to build these factories and pay for that? How long will that take? Will theses workers need to learn the skills needed? How long does that take? Who will work in them? How much will they need to be paid? Will companies go through all that or just import less reducing supply and raising prices? These tariffs could put companies out of business altogether causing layoffs to the non-factory workers that actually do work in the USA. Tariffs only work to protect existing US manufacturers- it won’t create new ones.
