Nothing personal, but the wisdom I’ve gained from listening to opinions on news channels like CNN, BBC, DW, NYT, and WaPo is that most forecasts and predictions rarely pan out, often missing the mark by a significant margin. The conventional wisdom, therefore, is to treat the news as raw input, apply critical thinking, and rely on your own heuristics-those mental shortcuts and instincts-to navigate the bigger picture. Take, for example, the discussions about removing Russia from SWIFT to cripple its banking system-just look at how that played out.

@ These News channel pundits touted Russia’s removal from SWIFT as a silver bullet that would cripple its economy, but the predicted collapse never came. While sanctions have hurt sectors like technology, consumer goods, and imports, Russia has relied on its resource wealth, redirected trade with non-Western countries, and domestic adjustments to stabilize its economy. The short-term resilience is clear, but long-term challenges, especially from restricted access to Western technology and investment, still loom.

Of course, tariffs resulted in higher prices for consumers. You know the sellers pay less for it when you purchase an item. So you might say, 'He must have bought it for less than one dollar if he is selling it for one dollar. ' Supposed he imported it from Canada for 60 cents each, and the US plans to impose a 100% tariff next week on that item, then he will have to pay Uncle Sam 60 cents as well, So it would cost him 120 cents for each. Would he still sell it to you for one dollar each? Of course not.

@jack8230Ай бұрын
Tariffs equals more money for a country to spend on programs for their citizens. Tariffs balance trade inequality. Tariffs force manufactures to build factories in the cheaper country. So say an item costs less to make in the USA. It won't be made in China anymore. In the long term more money will stay in the country.

@@jack8230 more taxes for more government programs? I don't think so. Republicans are all about lowering taxes on the wealthy folk.
@joaomelo7018Ай бұрын
@@jack8230 you're basically just echoing the mercantilistic view of the 17th century empires. The issue with that philosophy is A, you are ultimately poorer as by definition the tariff favors the less productive local industry. Tariffs go both ways, retaliation is the logical game theory option and yoru export industries become less competitive. Blanket tariffs are even worse because, Americans aren't going to be sowing shoes for a dollar a day, there aren't many places you can grow avocados, 90% of the metallurgical raw materials used by US industries are imported. So you get fewer options in the market, more expensive options and businesses will see extreme knock on effects. I explained David Riccardo's 200 year old and very easy-to-understand comparative advantage theory. Nations mutually benefit from specializing and trading.

European never understand what the peace means. Their history process just evolved to the point in which Chinese have gone through 2000 years before. Don't worry about China's navy. All of the ships they're building can't go more than a thousand miles from shore because they're destroyers and cruisers. Just two American super carriers can take on the entire Chinese navy, and the US has 12 super carriers. Incidently, the Chinese recently built a submarine at the mentioned shipyard that sank in port because the Chinese don't know how to build subs. Not worried at all.
