But here we are while China openly admits to building up its military and will take Taiwan and others by force in a matter of years. We have to stop ignoring this.

Let's stop ignoring the fact that Taiwan, ROC, drew the eleven-dash line first after WW2 under Cairo declaration and Potsdam declaration as the islands were occupied by imperial Japan in WW2 and returned to ROC after they were defeated. Then China, PRC, succeeded and revised it into Nine-dash line in North Vietnam's favour at that time. And let's not forget how Philippines stole the Thitu Island from Taiwan. And the fact that Taiwan still controls & militarizes Taiping Island according to their eleven-dash line in South China sea, which is also in dispute with Philippines. The Chinese and Taiwanese are literally in same shoes in South China sea tho they might not like each other. You're talking nonsense. The Australian plane was hundreds of kilometers from Chinese airspace, much closer to the Philippines. They were near Scarborough Shoal which is claimed by both nations. When China moved to take possession of the shoal, Philippines petitioned the UN for arbitration. The South China Sea Arbitration determined that under the Convention on the Law of the Sea, China had no claim over the shoal or the waters around it. Despite that, China sent hundreds of fishing vessels to the area and began work to destroy the reef by covering it with dredged material to make a military base there as they've done on other disputed territories in the South China Sea. Efforts by US and Philippine navies have prevented it from happening and a standoff continues. So the planes were flying in international airspace when the confrontation occurred.
