How can we see China as a threat if it has not done anything to harm global peace and order? Perhaps, a quick comparison of facts between the USA and China will provide a clearer perspective. 1. Since its founding, the USA has been in wars for 226 years out of 243 years. Even after it ceased combat actions in Iraq and Afghanistan in 2021, the USA is still engaging in 3 ongoing conflicts - Yemen, Somali, and Syria. For the latter part of 19th century and the early part of 20th century, China was a victim of western colonisation as well as the brutal invasion of Imperial Japan, respectively. China is not involved in any war. In fact, the last regional war was with Vietnam in 1979, some 4 decades ago. 2. Speaking of Afghanistan, the USA occupied the country for 20 years even after it killed Osama bin Laden in 2011. Despite its withdrawal in 2021, it still maintains a tight grip on the country causing a dire humanitarian crisis on its 40 million population - by freezing its foreign reserve (embezzling part of which for 911 victims), hindering all capital transactions, and maintaining severe sanctions. China was among the first country providing humanitarian aid to the country and has pledged to rebuild Afghanistan including schools, hospitals and infrastructure. 3. After the 911 attack, the various wars engaged by the USA and its allies on terrorism caused close to a million deaths, including 0.4 million civilians. Some 38 million people primarily in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen were displaced. If the victims caused by regime changes and colour revolutions instigated by the West are included, the tallies will be much higher. China has not played any combat role or responsible for any casualties in the said wars. On the contrary, it has always reiterated its firm stance in respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations, free from all external interference or military threats. 4. The USA has a staggering total of 750 military bases in over 80 countries. In contrast, China has only 4 military bases, including Gwadar Port (Pakistan) and Djibouti (Somali). The USA has +330 biological labs in 30 countries (including 26 biolabs in Ukraine, a point of interest if the Russians can dig up any secrets after these facilities are secured). China does not have a single biolab overseas. 5. USA’s military spending in 2021 was USD 738 billion, surpassing the combined total of next 13 nations of USD 729 billion. In contrast, China’s military spending was USD 193 billion. Using a simple measure of military budget vs GDP, one can easily discern which budget is for national defense and which is more than simple defense purpose.

Well, Mr. Kendall does have some lofty goals. He is insisting that the US, with 330 million people, maintain military superiority in a region that is close to China, which has 1.4 billion people. I realize that has been the historical paradigm, but it is a paradigm nonetheless and one that he wants to hang on to. It seems like in the face of a rapidly modernizing China, it would be best to figure a way to coexist with China instead of looking for ways to challenge her.
@taishanburgermeister85222 жыл бұрын
@Chris Lloyd I can certainly respect that you feel that way. However, there isn’t a guarantee that Mr. Kendall’s ambitions will be realized. And if that is the outcome, I do believe it is best to try and maintain good relations with China.
@sladewilson3772 жыл бұрын
@@taishanburgermeister8522 that’s the dumbest thing I’ve heard. Just because China’s population is a lot higher than the US doesn’t it mean that’s it’s not possible for the us to maintain military supremacy. That would be like saying that’s it not possible for the US to maintain its military supremacy over India. China’s threat is mostly economic rather than actual military. In a war, China would be annihilated by Russia or the US. China’s troops lack modern combat experience.
@taishanburgermeister85222 жыл бұрын
@@sladewilson377 Why do some people assume they are God’s gift to intelligence simply because they have a political opinion. Don’t forget Russia can also annihilate the US. Nuclear weapons have a funny way of doing that. And let’s not forget the Chinese are building up their nuclear forces as well. However, secretary Kendall was talking about conventional forces. And while there is no guarantee that China will ever acquire the edge, it can also be said that there’s no guarantee that the US could maintain the edge. Did you miss the part where he said the average age of America’s aircraft is 30 years old? Moving forward it is a race between the US and China on implementing 21st technologies into their respective militaries. And despite capabilities based on past successes, there is no guarantee of those successes in the future. As far as India, don’t forget that a country’s military is in line with their economy. So their military potential will be reflected in their existing economic output. Kendall came back to public service not because of India, but because of China. And based on experts in every field, whether it is artificial intelligence, semiconductors, aerospace, space, healthcare, finance, etc., they all say China is the pacing challenge. So my point is why is China, with the potential to surpass the US, why is it viewed as a threat? Especially since it is coming from a country with 1.4 billion people versus another country that has 330 million people. If it happens, it shouldn’t be surprising since China is a bigger country population-wise. China should not be viewed negatively if it is the pacing challenge, it is after all a nation of 1.4 billion people. And that is the point I’m trying to make. And jeez, again, why does every good ol boy think he’s God’s gift to intelligence simply because he has a political opinion?
@sladewilson3772 жыл бұрын
@@taishanburgermeister8522 your repeating the same nonsense. Russia beat the US in a war? They can barely hold their own against the Ukrainian military and your now wondering if they can challenge the United States. Russia would never use nuclear weapons against the United States because starting a nuclear war with any county would be stupid. Your also misplacing China’s threat to US hegemony. China’s is largely an economic threat to the US not a military one. The US will probably be able to maintain its military edge over both Russia and China for the decades to come. It spends more than the next 7 countries combined. It has 800 military bases around the world. No country will ever be able to reach the US’s military power for a while. The US along with its allies are still the top dog military. Russia and China are still pretty far the US’s military strength.
@sladewilson3772 жыл бұрын
@@taishanburgermeister8522 The US still retains the most technologically advanced and powerful air fleet in the world. The average us fighter jet isn’t 30 years old. Large economy doesn’t equal Large military otherwise by your logic Russia (2nd largest military) should have a large economy when it doesn’t. Your points make no sense. Just because a country’s population is much higher doesn’t necessarily mean that that country is going to be more powerful than the other.

And whether you are talking about transport or fighter jets or helicopters, all these airplanes were built over the last 50+ years.
