Russia is NOT a friendly ally of China, it is a "regional" rival in Central Asia and at best the relationship between China and Russia is ambivalent. "The enemy of my enemy" kind of thing when it comes to dealing with the West but opposition when it comes to basically any other matter.

1) When the video states that Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam are not insignificant neighbors with their own respective thick jungle topographies, this is not explaining only the potential military threat from those countries. The video is discussing geography, so I take it that any nation's military might ally with M-L-V to invade China from that defensible southern region. 2) The video states a disadvantage for China's geography is, it might be blockaded at sea from trading with rest of the world. However, if US and its allies (NATO) and partners (OECD nations) are blockading China at sea, who else will China attempt to trade with anyway? That would be Game Over for China's export-oriented economy. 3) China is double cropping its rice harvest, yet it still must import food.

It's crucial to remember that while China would be devastated if its shipping were blockaded, the rest of the world (especially the US) would be devastated by the lack of Chinese goods. We saw this, to a certain point, during the worst of COVID. Especially the when China had locked down again during the first part of 2022 but the US had opened up. While we'd had supply issues for all of COVID, that's when pent up demand from travelling and buying Americans collided with the still-locked down production in China, and we had massive supply chain issues. We still do. Certain industries would grind to a halt. 90% of solar panels or components are manufactured in China. Walmart and Target shelves would be bare except for food. I think the US and China going to war is nearly as unlikely as nuclear war. For all our adversarial relationship, we are economically interdependent.

Lots of issues here. Geographically your analysis is fine, but geopolitically it is a bit of a mess. 1. Laos and Myanmar are not, and likely will never be, capable of invading China. Frankly, neither is Vietnam. I get what you're going for here, but these countries don't form any kind of a bloc against China in the way you hint at here. These states are poor and in some cases extremely disunified and have large internal military issues. Vietnam is a bit of a different story, but is really only poised to fight a defensive war (as they did with China in the late 70's). 1b. The reason Tibet is key is because it isn't just China's rivers that start there, but also all the water for SE Asia, India and Pakistan (as well as most of C Asia's rivers as well). Seizing Tibet was both defensive and offensive in this way. 2. There ARE several large mountain ranges between Tibet and Eastern China. Eastern Tibet/Western Qinghai/Western Yunnan is basically the most rugged terrain on earth, and really much harder to move through than the plateau itself. In effect it was these mountains which insulated Tibet from China for as long as it was. 3. China isn't really an ally of Russia. There are increasing connections, but it is also China's oldest and most contentious relationship with a neighbor (short of India). There is a lot of suspicion in Russia/Central Asia towards China, and they have fought battles in the past. Not to mention the history of the Sino-Soviet split. There is a strategic alliance here to counter the US, but also a lot of distrust and competition as they are neighbors with basically completely opposite problems (one has resources and no people, one has fewer resources and tons of people). 4. There are heaps of private corps investing in Africa as well. It isn't just SOE's doing this. These investments are also hardly unique to Africa. 5. Not sure why you spend all this time on Tibet and then neglect Xinjiang. It is in many ways a similar geographic issue for China, but has a higher non-Han population and is also much more open in some ways to external political forces like Islamic extremism. Overall I think you have a great start here, but you kind of slide into geopolitics and it seems a bit underdeveloped on that front. If you want to do another China vid I'd be happy to offer my advice (I'm a PhD candidate studying China). Edit: two words.

A lot of it doesn't have geographic protection. Other than that, the US has it very well when it comes to geography. Unless anyone here can name some geography problems with the US? I'd find it pretty interesting if someone can name some.

It's just that the NW has next to zero blood on it's hands now whereas Xi Jinping is literally harvesting people for organs. It's kind-of controversial to attack a West that has rule of law where in China you would have to sneak painkillers into the camp just to have a half-peaceful death. In the West the leaders are elected, in the East the leaders are chosen. There is represention for the West's actions, the East does not have such a thing, thus they get away with worse than Nazi shit. We don't even have a grasp on the true corruption in China. Dude I'm pretty sure you would've wanted to join the Nazi's as well before the battle of Britain. They were helpless punching bags until the American front came. If it wasn't for America the Nazi's would've won by a large marging. Even Russia's efforts were completely saved by America. I believe it was late 1942 (Not sure just check for the lowest amount of armor that Russia had during ww2, it was at such a low level that they practically already lost) that Russia had a handful of current generation tanks left, then the first American armor delivery came and it went straight to the front within days. Much to Russia's embaressment of course.

People today tend to have a quirky habit of moralising international politics. They love to reduce politics into the battle between good and evil, which is very ideological and unfaithful to the reality of the world. Everyone thinks the side he happens to be on is represent eternal justice, and as a result what we have is only a far more antagonistic situation fueled by self-righteous people fighting each other for ideological reasons. Things perhaps would been moving smoother if only everyone is just rationally pursuing their self-interest without ideologizing it. It is nice that you make a video about Chinese geopolitics from a more realist's perspective, rather than blaming everything China does as a result of an evil totalitarian regime which must be destroy at all cost (despite the fact that the fall of the current Communist regime would very probably mean a disaster for the whole Chinese population). We have all seen what US propaganda have done on the Arab Spring, with it ideological liberalism that ignores real consequences of politically distabilising a region under the name of supreme liberal value which trumps the value of millions of lives.

CHC You do realize the only action the US was involved in related to the Arab Spring was Libya, which was a European adventure that Obama tried to stay out of for over a month. As soon as Gadaffi was killed Europe left the US alone to pick up the pieces. The only thing keeping Libya together was Stevens, and that is why Islamic militants murdered him. People voting freely in Iraq and Afghanistan is a good thing. But democracies take time and are often very bloody roads. There are those who will try, and those that will not. The one certainty in life is you will get nowhere if you don't try. So being critical of that just makes you look silly.

So here is what "China took over Tibet only 300 years ago" means. About 300 years ago, Han Chinese area (Ming Empire) was invaded and conqered by Manchuries, and the Manchuries founded an empire called Qing which included Han Chinese area, Mogolia area, Tibet and Xinjiang. Han Chinese area, Tibet and other parts were under ruled by Qing Empire but they were independent to each other by the administration of Qing, like different realms. After the Qing Empire collapesed in 1911, Han Chinese provinces, Tibet and Mogolia were all annouced to be independence. Republic of China was founded in Han Chinese provinces and lost the controll of Tibet. And when People's Republic of China was founded in 1949, the government sent army to Tibet and re-controlled the land till now.

@eugeneng7064
@eugeneng7064 4 жыл бұрын
@Huawei sucks sheisse in the event you describe the nukes come out to play. There will not be an occasion when China allows itself to be blockaded like that without resorting to nukes, nor will every other country that relies on China (read everyone) economically not do anything. It's almost as if you want to keep the war conventional when it really isn't like that. Nato did not dare to stop Russia when it took Crimea, what do you think will happen when you attempt to holdwestern standard of living hostage? The only time a Chinese CVBG will engage a US CVBG will be in a limited conflict, and China will not engage unless with support. You know like with the bases in the SCS. Again, no. The US learnt a lot of lessons over the years, many of which no longer apply. Unless China somehow starts using propellor planes again that experience is largely worthless. As for your thoughts on aircraft carriers being around, it's worthless. People say tanks are obsolete, yet they evidently aren't. It's likely in that time there'll still be a niche for them to fill barring ocps which we cannot predict so everyone, including the US, continues to use them. No one cares if the CCP held them back or not. They care about the fact they are industrialised now. As for their behaviour, it's perfectly logical. Calling it a vanity move for an insecure China is like calling the US pulling a vanity move to put bases all over the world because they were so insecure that communism was going to spread everywhere. Or they were so insecure over an ally overtaking them economically they had to cut them down to size with a trade war. Everyone is insecure about something and the US is the most insecure of them all.
@eugeneng7064
@eugeneng7064 4 жыл бұрын
@Huawei sucks sheisse that's not how MAD works, something you seem to not understand. It doesn't matter if China burns in nuclear fire if the US is doing the same. The US can kill 7 billion people, and China can kill 300 million Americans. But China doesn't have 7 billion people, and America will come out from it no better. If doesn't matter who's dick is bigger if there's no one left to measure it. As for oil, China has strategic reserves, while not enough to supply China, it will also affect Korea and Japan. You can bet all three countries will band together should the US blockade China, because they all survive off the same oil supply from the Middle East, and Korea and Japan would crash if China's economy ceases to function without going to war. What I think you are talking about is institutional knowledge. When Japan modernised it did not have to learn how to operate Age of Sail ships, and went straight for pre-dreadnoughts and later carriers. It's the same for China. What the US has is institutional experience that is needed to maintain the current CVBGs which China is building now. As I have said earlier, what was applicable then is not always applicable now. Those lessons you're talking about is available online for all to see, published in journals and military magazines and taught in military academies the world over. It's not as if the Chinese do not learn from experiences drawn from others, which is one of the reasons China downsized her military because she saw how Iraq got trashed. You are a fool if you think they don't pay attention to what happens elsewhere. Otherwise Sun Tzu is an advantage China has because it is part of China's experience and not the American one. And Italy has Machiavelli and the world does not. As for all problems going away should China become a democracy? No. You are wrong. The US destroyed Japan's economy, an ally mind you, just because it got too big and threatened America's position as the world's largest economy. A democratic China is a democratic enemy. I would like to ask how many Chinese have you actually met, because I have met many, and their positions on Taiwan and others mean a democratic China is one that will democratically choose to reclaim Taiwan by force. The CCP os doing us a favour by clamping down on that. There are plenty of examples of democracies going to war because it is in their best interests. A democratic China at odds with the US would be no different.

It's ironic that peaceful countries benefited from a more powerful country also. The reason why peaceful countries are peaceful is not because they're altruistic, but it's because they doesn't have the economic or military capability to pursue their interests. Switzerland is neutral, but it have to maintain allied-like relationship with more powerful countries as part of its national security. Because there's one inevitable fact, being neutral or peaceful doesn't guaranteed that no one will invade you or try to take advantages using its own economic powers.

Taiwan has it's own government (which is a democracy), currency, military (quite a large and advanced one), passports (more powerful than China's), trade agreements, and national identity, not to mention a different writing system from China's. " A different writing system? Speaking as a native, yes, but no. There are two form of Chinese writing, the simplified version, and the traditional version, china used the traditional version for thousands of years, after the prc was established, the government simplified the characters to promote the literacy rate, however, Hong kong, Taiwan, and Macao are either still colonized or not controlled by the mainland government, therefore, still using the traditional system. Most people in mainland can read traditional Chinese perfectly, especially the elderly, who are more familiar with it
