@@atomicone2431 Seriously unlikely that there will still be dedicated AWACS aircraft in the late 2030s with how much investment every air force is putting into sensor fusion and satellite-based radar networks, and if you actually read the story linked in the description you'll see that air defences are very much acccounted for: "Forty-two rockets are intercepted or fail during flight. Eighty-nine others are lost in the descent, mulch their occupants on impact, or have their incapacitated/wounded occupants put down by service personnel or by residents of the State of the Marianas after splashing down. Of the 219 other weapons targeted on the Marianas, 123 are intercepted. General Department of Defence Intelligence or General Department II of the Vietnam People's Army actually raised the concern about the potential attack on the chain of islands. Several intelligence officers had secretly contacted their counterparts in the Russian SVR, FSB and GRU whom warned about the upcoming attack. Even though Russia supported China any many ways, they remained friends with Vietnam and actually fed lots of intel to the Vietnamese throughout the war. Also, during the patrol of 2 Vietnamese Navy vessels , project 22356M class frigate managed to pick up several radar signatures of the hypersonic glider during the early phase of launch and did warned the near-by naval base but it seemed like the info never got passed to the higher ups. Another things is that after the fall of Tinian, Vietnamese special force Navy divers (VSF) managed to sink 2 PLA cargo ships during their docking. And VSF's activities actually increased throughout the war, some form of guerilla-style warfare on the sea. They destroyed many depots, storages of the PLA in Tinian, Saipan and Guam itself. Which led to PLA's order to kill on capture any Vietnamese soldier.

My Dad was one of many heroes who fought in the South China Sea theater, he was a maintenance crew for Indonesian Air force Rafales stationed in Natuna Island, it also becomes the main HQ and airbase for the French and Australian air force, to achieve both naval and air supremacy so the PLA can't resupply their troops in Vietnam.

This is at the same time: interesting, impresive, funny and (considering current geopolitics) terryfing.
