The Ukrainian experience would seem to suggest drones should be seen as one way munitions as well as reconnaissance assets.

The first Russian mass produced sub was actually PPD. It was already available at the time of the Winter war but… was mostly distributed to the boundary guards (which belonged to NKVD at gat time). It was replaced with a more mass produceable PPSh - which actually was produced until the end of the war TOGETHER with PPS. The latter was considered to be more reliable but I have doubts that with the gradual phasing out of the PPSh drum magazine the real difference was big.

Something worth noting: yes the Soviets issued a lot of SMGs, and although SMG implies shorter range, and while that is still true relative to rifle round, the 7.62x25mm lends itself to range about as well as possible, and certainly better than 9mm. So naturally, saving the production time and making say, a 3 PPS-43 that was ok ish at range and very effective inside 200m would start to be more efficient than just making one Mosin.

I was the NBC (cbrn) NCO for a Patriot battery for 2 years. Good times during all the live fire events. Table 12s, not so much. But live fire, night fire, yes! We did a patriot on patriot intercept once and it was insane.
