China's Man-Made Paradise: Thousand Island Lake 千岛湖 🇨🇳

We're back for another episode of Bobu and Meimei's China VLOG series. This time I surprise them with a trip to Qiandaohu - Thousand Island Lake.
This is one of my favourite places in China, it's absolutely beautiful. Furthermore, the entire lake is man-made, which is almost unbelievable. Hopefully, my parents like it too. And of course, we have to try the most authentic local dish available, fresh from the lake!

I love watching the reactions while your parent dine. Especially your dad. He is like letting his inner child come out and suprise himself with every bite. I can see your mum joy in her eyes but she tend to be conserve herself strictly. How charming. The fat-head-fish is actually a kind of carp fish. It is delicious if the chef know how to prepare and cook it property. A major pest in most America rivers but a delicacy in Asia.😂 Like most western countries, if only the local government can put down their ignorance and begin to listen and learn from the Asian migrant community. None of the "invasive" can become a problem that government need to waste millions of tax money just to get rid of it.

Bit like crayfish in UK. Regarded as an invasive species, nobody really eats them.

@@TravelinChina I do. I download a form from city council and send it off every year, and get a license for free. Then I catches the crayfish and mitten crabs that I can possible eat in the river and canals. 😋 Crayfish and crab are extremely sensitive with water quality. So they can only live in clean environment, not filthy water that the internet rumors describe.

Yes! finally, my favourite dish from Hangzhou area. I got people who aren't a fan of fish to love drinking this soup. It's that good when it's well made. Me, i love the white jelly-like piece in the middle of the fish head called Yu Yun(鱼云 'fish cloud'), online mistranslates it as the entire fish head, online is wrong. No actual Cantonese speaker will confuse the Yu Yun for the entire head. Btw, that fish is called Bighead carp as it was exported to the US and other locations for their ability to clean off fast growing algae, and then they quickly became invasive. Their heads are good but their bodies are way too bony. and i hope your next video will be taking a boat to some of the islets, like the big one where they have the bridge with the several contained areas of increasingly larger carp. the last ones those fish are HUGE!

Loved our 2 weeks stay and just got back. The cleanliness, friendliness, safeness and the luxury ($150 for 5-6 star hotel w/ 2 minute walk breakfast bar/happy hour), robots on the street and in the mall doing cleaning, took a cab without driver, never used any paper money. Paid grocery with no one in sight using my face! TOO many WFT moments. I want to go back next year for sure. Yes. People have no idea

Situ, since you went to Hong Kong with your parents before, I challenge you to visit Hong Kong and Shenzhen's most iconic hidden gems: Chung Ying Street in Sha Tau Kok literally the border between Mainland China and Hong Kong. There is no border fence and locals can cross over it everyday. Unfortunately, there is a specific permit you have to get and foreigners aren't allowed. I love your Thousand Island Lake video so much, but it's a pity that place is far to commute.

The eggplant dishes is cooked with fish style sauce. There is no fish in it and in many case people argue for fish, feeling deceived when expected fish were not found. It is what it is, eggplant cooked in braised fish style.
