yes and if the J-16 Flanker can win the Miss Global Flanker Pageant by still being there after all the US shit boxes have exhausted all their over priced shit boxes of attack missiles then China will have won - but to do that China has to have 100% control of the HERTZ ... 8 Hertz is a good starting place

Pretty but its becoming fastly obsolete. Thats probably why the PLAAF is trying to get these aircraft to carry much larger missiles so they can extend the lifespan of the airframe and just turn them into missile carriers because every 4th gen fighter just became obsolete with the advent of the stealth fighter. Obsolete does not mean useless though and if I have to imagine, these aircraft can probably be used to saturate the enemy with missiles fired from extremely long distances even before the stealth fighters are within range of each other. How that would exactly work when the missiles cannot target what they cannot see is not my problem but they can probably act like cruise missiles having autonomous and independent tracking once the missiles are fired.

@@mosesracal6758 They can't go head to head with 5th gens but they aren't obsolete - unless you would classify every other 4++ fighter as obsolete. Chinese flankers are currently 1 full generation ahead of F15E and Dassault in terms of AESA radar and A2A missiles (not even counting PL17, which only Russia has equivalent). We are talking about 1750 T/R modules on Chinese J-11D compared to less than 1000 T/R modules on Dassault RBE2 AESA.

@@mtrest4 Please explain how you can get a targeting track from just listening to a Radar based on currently established laws of physics. Because what you are claiming simply isn't possible The US btw lost 10,000 aircraft in Vietnam, with 30%-50% of the kills caused by the S75 , the USSR sent a grand total of 95 of them to Vietnam and the US repeatedly failed to find and kill these AA systems And the same thing was repeated in the Kosovo war! Yugoslav Air Defenses Mostly Intact >Defense sources said one problem is that many of the Yugoslav military's 150 surface-to-air missiles have been hidden from NATO aircraft, as have the thousands of antiaircraft artillery batteries and hundreds of shoulder-launched antiaircraft missiles similar to the U.S. Stinger. There are antiradiation missiles, that simply heads towards the location that is emitting radiation but they are pretty much useless because the enemy just turns off the radar when these missiles are launched, and then they miss the target The only way to actually target and hit is by turning on your own radar, there are no currently established laws of physics that allow you to hit a target just by listening to EM waves being given off ...

It would be ideal if the PLAAF could deploy some kind of elongated stealth UCAV (long enough to internally carry long-range BVR AAMs such as the PL-17 & eventually PL-21); it would play the role of a fast-flying interceptor & companion drone. It's primary use case would be to penetrate deep into enemy airspace & snipe enemy AWACs, refuelers, transports, & other high-value or support aircraft.

@@GMATveteran Well, I don't expect the Dark Sword to be done any time soon. They are just starting to produce 2-seats variant of J-20, probably for the loyal wingman concept. This is cutting edge stuff because no one has successfully deploy this concept yet, so they are gonna take their sweet time on this. Or who knows, they might unveil the prototype next year. But I think all these developments will likely mirror how deep are US provocations. If the Americans gone off the deep end, they are going to accelerate these kinds of programs. If the Americans become a little more sensible, they might take it a little easy.

What would be the role of PL-17, with a range of over 400+ km? Maybe it would be used to snipe AWACS from a long distance, or targeting EW, tankers ... J-16 is a very large flanker, despite it looks like its smaller cousins such as Mig-29, Su-27. Then, J-16 would be detected from far away by AWACS, before it can snipe. It seems J-20 carrying PL-15 would do this better.

Missiles like PL17 eliminate any advantages held by other aircraft, assuming the network of sensors do their job. No aircraft can escape a missile that pulls 50 Gs. Even a lowly transport aircraft with PL 17 missiles can hunt for and down fighter aircraft from far away. That’s why China has dense sensor arrays in many frequencies including optical recognition in visible and IR, radar at various wavelengths, EM transmission locators, and more.

I expect a forward deployed J20 will detect adversary aircraft with its’ powerful radar. Then instead of remaining locked on the target while another aircraft fires the PL17, the J20 will launch a supersonic drone that closes on the target and takes over the tracking & illuminating the target with its’ own limited AESA radar. This allows the J20 to turn off its’ radar and go invisible and turn away. After completion, the supersonic drone would then land in a rendezvous location for recovery.

@@mosesracal6758 regarding anti-air assets, the Department of Defense (DoD) does not rely on guesswork. We know that China has been advancing in stealth detection, anti-air, and anti-ship capabilities. The 2023 DoD report on China indicates they possess ballistic capabilities resistant to jamming. In March 2022, the Chinese demonstrated a system capable of targeting an area radar, simulating a missile saturation attack. This is essentially similar to the threat emitters we use for our own pilot training except that the Chinese version is a more enhanced and mobile system. Ours look like air conditioners with a radar dish, whereas the Chinese is somehow mobile (satellite, rocket, balloon??). What does this imply? If accurate, it essentially renders stealth unnecessary, transforming conventional anti-air and ship missiles into effective stealth weapons. Not in the sense that they are undetectable by radar, but because they are accompanied by hundreds of phantom radar signatures. Everyday i look at China objectively i get more concerned.

China being primarily more as a regional power does not have to care about range or even limit their aircraft to just barely fit existing logistics structures so they can definitely just keep on putting the largest missiles on their aircraft.

That advantage is actually huge. We spend trillions to maintain a global presence and address a wide range of potential threats. Our military is powerful, but it essentially functions as a jack of all trades. In contrast, China can concentrate their resources, research, deployments, and operations on a single regional area and against one enemy, the USA. This means their spending is more focused and efficient. We see that they only spend $400 billion, but according the USNI we understand they don't include operations, the coast guard, frigates, or logistical transports in their figures, they also do not count their nuclear program in their figures. Coupling that with the fact that they only need to focus on one region and one enemy and the USD has more bang for the buck in China, this presents a dangerous unknown for us

Accuracy at hitting targets successfully drops exponentially with range. Also weight the aircraft has to carry increases limiting the total number of weapons that can be carried. Medium and medium-short range missikes is what makes the most kills. Long and extra long range missiles tend to miss. Only 15% probability of a kill.
@MrCastodian
@MrCastodian Жыл бұрын
Yes, against fighter size targets, against force multipliers it’s an almost guaranteed kill, 15% hit rate is just not true for any missile with this use. And accuracy do not drop with range, an active radar is just as good if the missile is 400km away or 50km away because the radar is on the missile…and in general, the larger the missile the stronger the radar is.
@mtrest4
@mtrest4 Жыл бұрын
@@MrCastodian Nah, these missiles have small radars cross sections and limited electronic payload. Illumination by host aircraft is itself a magnet for missiles. In general long range missiles do not hit their target. Kill probability against fighter aircraft is 15% or less. Only effective against large targets like AWACS and more so deterring them than striking them. Also how real are advertised claims. A test a couple of years ago in front of a customer for a C80-x anti-ship missile by China totally missed its sea target despite multiple missiles being fired. Claims may be one thing and reality something else...

@@mtrest4 Lol you are an idiot, you do realize that the PL-17 has active radar homing, look it up Look at Russia vs Ukraine war , Ukraine's aircraft are getting deleted before they can even detect Russian planes , Long range missiles work >The R-37M LRAAM Set the Record for Longest-Range Air-To-Air Kill in Ukraine >In late October a Ukrainian Sukhoi-27 Flanker, Soviet-era fighter, was shot down by a long-range air-to-air missile (LRAAM) - the R-37M. This is not the first Ukrainian aircraft to be shot down since Russia’s invasion commenced in February, but it is nevertheless a significant feat for the Russian Air Force because the R-37M took down the Ukrainian Sukhoi-27 from a range of 217km (about 140 miles). This would make the kill the longest on record. The R-37M is a hypersonic long-range air-to-air missile (LRAAM) reportedly capable of reaching Mach 6 and striking targets up to 400km (250 miles) away.

First, there is no way China can develop anything new. They can only steal and copy. Then, there is no way China can build what they claimed. They will always lie. Third, there is no way whatever China built actually works. They do not have the technical know-how or experience. Finally, there is no way they are deploying in enough numbers to make a difference, for a country that literally has 30% of the entire world's manufacturing capacity. You got to be more creative than this. I thought being creative is like your racial trait or something.

Russians are mounting AESA radars on their Su-35 and Su-30 newest models and they can carry R-.37M with massive range of 400km. Plus they are working on another variant with codename Izdelie 810 that wil be optimized for carrying internally and with even more extended range. So calling J-16 arguably the best Flanker is bit of a stretch, especially since it has not been combat proven, but no doubt China has come a long way. Its good to see that they can threaten American airplanes.
@user-ku6bv4ni2f
@user-ku6bv4ni2f Жыл бұрын
Isnt Su-57 the only Russian fighter in service that has an AESA radar? Su-35 and Su-30 have only PESA radars, even for the newer ones (such as Su-30SM2). Frankly speaking China wasn't satisfied with the avionics from the 24 Su-35 they bought, one key reason to why no further deals were made. It's nowhere as competent in BVR combat as proper AESA counterparts
@007sammax
@007sammax Жыл бұрын
we are in 2023. its an open fact Russian legs behind in 21st century advance electronics. AESA radar is still very rare in Russian air force. SU-35/SU-30SM2 both currently equipped with PESA radars. cannot match with J-16's AESA radar. J-16 has very large AESA radar and IRST is by far the best in flanker series. Russians cannot match Chinese in electronics and avionics.

Lmao source: trust me bro. The Russians keep on planning on improving their air force since the last 2 decades with nothing to show for it. China on that same time frame has not only beaten the Russians on developing and actually fielding a 5th gen stealth fighter, they arent even buying engines from them anymore which was the only reason why China clinged on to Russian military industry.
@xinyiquan666
@xinyiquan666 Жыл бұрын
stop NS . there is no such thing as AESA radar on su 35, it is PESA, russia does not have advanced eletronic technology, nor they can build any radar in mordern technology, also R37 is old 1980s missile, which is just antique, also its only 390 km range, while PL17 is over 400km, and some said it can range at 600km, also su35 is no match to J16 in any way, su35 also does not have combat proven, , china is top in airplane now, US is not match either, f 35 is j c
@aswinottapilavil495
@aswinottapilavil495 Жыл бұрын
So far there is no confirmation on any Su-35 having an AESA radar. Irbis is a great radar and is definitely very capable in its own regard, it can even possibly outmatch or outperform some AESA radars in some regards but it is still a PESA radar nonetheless and comes with certain bottlenecks. R-37M on the other hand is a deadly missile, it is not only combat proven but many evidence suggests that it was able to knock down fighters from extreme ranges. PL-17 could have longer range but R-37M would likely be more manoeuvrable. So, assuming J-16 to be the most advanced flanker variant isn’t a stretch at all.
