In Canada, provinces control liquor sales (liquor, wine, beer). They all removed US liquor from shelves and cancel orders. Even with Trump's pause, they're not resuming US liquor sales.

@@mattjewett4473 this still stops current sales from the manufacturers and distributors. If it's not being sold, they're certainly not importing more to replace it. Shipments already in delivery will probably be sent back, adding to travel and storage (or destruction) expenses instead of profits.

China produces a lot of stuff for which there is no obvious competition, at least in the short term. (There is more competition between Chinese suppliers than there is with competitors from other countries). So Trump's tarrifs will have little effect on US consumption and will just push prices higher for US consumers. In the meantime millions around the world (not just in China) will no longer view the US as a reliable trading partner and will increasingly seek out non-US products.

Except for oil, America has (or had) a $35 billion trade surplus with Canada, we are their largest export market by far. That's not counting all the vacations and snowbirds, we own $50 billion in Florida real estate for instance. Canada is the top export market for most US states. Canadians are pissed and this will go on for a very long time and cost America 10's of billions of dollars. Canadians care, Americans don't. This will cost America far more than our counter tariffs would, and it is just getting started. We are hunting for Canadian alternatives and just beginning to organize and respond. New Businesses will start up to supply our market with domestic goods. We might even drop tariffs (106%) on cheap HQ Chinese EVs that are 1/3 the cost of US alternatives, American cars can't compete on price and quality. Also, solar panels and equipment are very cheap in China, and we don't make any, (but have a 286% tariff) America does or wants to make solar panels. It wouldn't even violate our free trade agreement, though Trump does, and we wouldn't even need to tariff US cars since they can't compete on quality and price. We could sell the Chinese lumber, soybeans, wheat, pork and a host of other things. Trade deals are also being made by the government with a bunch of other countries too. We won't be holding any Chinese executives for Trump this time around either. Since we were caught in the middle and the charges were dropped anyway, it was a setup and an abuse of our extradition treaty.
