Another great place to explore. My in-laws go back at least twice a year and have been doing it for 15 years. They keep telling us that they will never see all of China.

Thanks to getting me to know zhanjiang. I had a good friend from there, but just know there's a lot of sea food, farming, but never know it was a colony before! I'm from Hong Kong, so know about colonial culture where east meets west. Would put this on my to go list to check it out.

Another fascinating vlog! My parents are from Guangzhou so we definitely have ties to that region. Putting it on the destination list for sure. Though I don't think I will try the sandworms. I think Julie is more adventurous than me with food. 😆

In those years, Zhanjiang (湛江)was a concession, not a colony of France.

Yes, a concession, never a colony…..my grandfather had a shophouse in Zhanjiang
@jiayiandjulieinchina18 күн бұрын
@glennyeung3902 Look at the Museum. The French themselves called it a colony, and so do the officials in China. Let's not whitewash colonialism to make it sound nicer
@gost721318 күн бұрын
@@jiayiandjulieinchina in school, following British style, we were taught concessions (sooo many enclaves occupied by MANY western powers) all over Mainland China. Well, France had their own way with words…..concession n colony is interchangeable. Classic examples of colonies in the past….british - India, Burma, North America, Australia, New Zealand, etc…….French - Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, swathes of Africa….

@freefree1219 yeah! Right! May be Chinese people are scared to talk beside beautiful women. I actually watched a film titled butterfly lovers and a girl dressed up as a man, and went to an all male martial art school pretending to be a man. I was really flabbergasted that not one of the males could even tell that she was female. This got me wondering can't Chinese men tell the difference between a girl pretending to be male by just listening to her voice and even her facial structure, don't forget also that girls have titties even though Chinese females don't have them pronounced as other races. Why is this? Just wondering?
