China is such a fascinating country with such rich history and culture. I love videos like this because we see history in motion. As countries continue to advance and develop we often leave behind certain customs and traditions for the sake of modernity, but here we see a sort of gritty reality; the life of the common person as it is and always has been. There is pride to be had here as I see people - ordinary people - living their day to day lives. It's not glamorous, it's not fancy, but it is what the regular everyday person can relate to.

This is a very good example for India. Your country can look very old and people and stuff everywhere without being nasty. This area looks like a lot of Canadian cities used to feel when I was a kid! Lots of beautiful architecture, but a lot of people downtown, the glow of lights, yet a lot of trees and beautiful plants! The streets are clean, all walks of life bustling around, shops open late, people relaxing late together having a drink or eating...reminds me of a time before our country changed and became Americanized! It was very similar even 20 years ago! Now everyone goes home early, wakes up early for work. Stores close around 5pm-9pm. The streets are dead and rarely do you see young families or children! Even in the parks! Such a sad difference in that warmth I remember as a child...I remember Canada used to have very warm and exciting and welcoming downtowns like this....people simply don't like to hang out anymore over here! :(

China is massive, and every region has its own culture and dialects. People from different areas even look and sound different, and their customs vary so much that sometimes it feels like they’re from different countries. Mandarin is the one language everyone can use to communicate, but even then, jokes and humor don’t always land the same way - a Northerner’s joke might go over a Southerner’s head. Living in Shenzhen, I get to experience this mix every day; people from all over the country are here, making it one of the most interesting places to be.
