This is not a bottom of society in China. I studied in Tianjin in 2010 and the worst was always the Hutong district in the cities. Village communities are also poor in China. I remember such walks like this one. I liked them. Real life, nice people amazed by my presence in their world.

太恶心了，现在阳塑变成这样花花绿绿大红大绿的一坨狗屎一样的了？完全没有了以前那些文艺浪漫唯美店铺的感觉了。最后一次去阳朔是2017年，以前去过20几次，现在看这种鬼样子，倒送我钱都不会去了

better than favela....better than slums in latin america....cleaner and saver even there is no cctv camera in that area. and the goverment has plans to develop this "bottom of society" areas in every city in china. at least they have good sanitation and food for now.

I am probably naive (I am not very educated what's the actual life like there), but that chaotic / unorganized looking and a bit wild environment, combined with the greenery, cleanness and the lack of the advertisement smog ... I feel calm when watching this.
