As soon as I heard « retiring their 787-8 to modernize their fleet », and before you mentioned it, I tought about Air Canada bringing back theirs 767. Feels like there will be a lot of opportunities for those planes.

I gave up China Southern when they dropped their London to Gangzhou A380 flights in favor of squished, ultra narrow seating 787s. As I do the Lon to Australia route twice a year, I only fly on airlines with A380s or 9 across 777 seating, at a push A350s, at least on the longest overnight sectors of the flights. Next month SIA A380- to Singapore then A350 to Aus.

Chinese airlines have a 'quota' of widebodies they are allowed to possess at a given moment. This means airlines can't simply 'buy another A350 if the market calls for it'; getting rid of an old asset is the prequesite of acquiring a new one. Or so I have heard. Sad to see those are going; personally I find the CSN 787s to offer the best international economy seat experience among the big Chinese airlines.

Emirates has used second-hand planes in its fleet. When the airline was first established in 1985, it started operations with used Boeing 727-200 aircraft provided by Dubai’s royal family and also leased a couple of planes from PIA. I wonder if the increasing scrutiny of Boing's shoddy quality are also part of the issue. According to the piece on 60 Minutes yesterday, one whistleblower identified sub-standard landing gear parts were used on the 787 to rush it to waiting customers. He said the parts will likely fail before their life limits, and there are thousands of similar parts out there. However, if China Southern orders 787-9 as replacements, then I would be wrong. Let's see what they do.

The Boeing 787 is a lovely aircraft and these have the right engines as well, would be interesting to know the cost effectiveness comparison between the #8 & #9 models. The #8 seems to be more quiet to operate up front, probably some airflow difference depending on size of the fuselage.

I see AA and UA as the most likely. UA is bursting at the seams right now while remaining surprisingly profitable. AA is in the most need of more wide-bodies. Makes sense for Air India to pick them up. Out of the 27 787-8s that Air India has, 5 dreamliners are parked for various reasons. These 10 aircraft with their better maintained interiors could be a boon for the expading airline, as the widebodies from their 470 aircraft order will not start delivery before 2026 and is also difficult to predict owing to supply chain issues and quality issues boeing is experiencing. Recently, the airline also saw another setback as their widebody refurbishment program has been delayed by another year.

The early models of the 787 (788) had various minor issues. In China domestic operating costs remain high, the overall economic outlook is generally pessimistic. Airlines are looking to cut expenses or seek short-term gains. China Southern Airlines base in Guangzhou, less advantageous as Beijing and Shanghai naturally, and losing its battle to Shenzhen politically, a Beijing-affiliated enclave nearby, due to locating farther from Beijing on the domestic political spectrum. The tragic thing is that, as a company owned by central government, it cannot independently make major decisions; buying and selling aircraft require approval or even instructions from authorities, yet due to its ties with the city, it ranks quite low as seeking privileges.

Maybe Qantas can buy them. The Qantas young fleet of Airbus A330, with an average age of 21 years, is such a shame. Broken seats, not working entertainment systems, not working USB outlets and delays due to elongated maintenance and repairs are the norm.

I am 90% sure that routes now operating by 787-8s would be replaced by A320xlr. Routes which China Southern’s 787-8 now operates are mainly between XinJiang and Europe and this distance exactly fall into the range of A320xlr. By doing so they can save money with more fuel efficiency and more flexible routes planning. It’s kinda a downgrade but in the future it might be possible to get on a China Southern jet in any small towns in Europe and fly directly to China ;-)

If you speculation is true, that will be great news. This type of routing might be more polar bear friendly as well, since you are taking less transfer fly.

11 year old plane will be "almost new". Let alone lot of systems just come back with overhaul. Gonna be relative worry free deal and potential very good one if the price is good.

Could Hawaiian be interested? They could accelerate the retirement of their A330s. Sure they have eight more -9s on the way to go with the two they have but those won't come close to replacing their A330 fleet.

Naah. SQ doesn’t buy or lease other airlines’ used aircraft. Even if they’re short (of aircraft), they won’t do it. SQ realises their reputation is worth far more than any short-term profit, & using other airlines used aircraft can compromise that by way of inconsistency in product or service offerings, or, even worse, safety…

Too Bad So Sad. China Southern Airlines also NOT my favorite A350 operator as well. What if China Southern grounds its entire fleet of 20 A350s?
@林振华-t4v
@林振华-t4v 2 күн бұрын
😂And why should the A350 being grounded? There is no major issue on the horizon that potential ground the fleet. And the 737 max fiasco is pure political motive IMO. Does the max have problem!? Yes. Does the problem has to be handle this way? No! The metal contamination problem on the A320 is potentialy more dangerous than the max problem. Has any airliner ground their fleet? No!

More Boeings being retired 😢 but why the 787 is the most modernness aircraft you can get from Boeing
@henkmagnetic3103
@henkmagnetic3103 4 күн бұрын
They certainly won't be buying Boeing if replacements to be purchased. Comac planes be a better fit. If I was buying new planes, I would not buy Boeing until their executives are actually in jail. You'd have to provide a disclaimer for Boeings; to the best of this airline's knowledge, we don't think this plane will fall out of the sky, not 100% sure though.
