Chinese airlines have a 'quota' of widebodies they are allowed to possess at a given moment. This means airlines can't simply 'buy another A350 if the market calls for it'; getting rid of an old asset is the prequesite of acquiring a new one. Or so I have heard. The early models of the 787 (788) had various minor issues. In China domestic operating costs remain high, the overall economic outlook is generally pessimistic. Airlines are looking to cut expenses or seek short-term gains. China Southern Airlines base in Guangzhou, less advantageous as Beijing and Shanghai naturally, and losing its battle to Shenzhen politically, a Beijing-affiliated enclave nearby, due to locating farther from Beijing on the domestic political spectrum. The tragic thing is that, as a company owned by central government, it cannot independently make major decisions; buying and selling aircraft require approval or even instructions from authorities, yet due to its ties with the city, it ranks quite low as seeking privileges.

They certainly won't be buying Boeing if replacements to be purchased. Comac planes be a better fit. If I was buying new planes, I would not buy Boeing until their executives are actually in jail. You'd have to provide a disclaimer for Boeings; to the best of this airline's knowledge, we don't think this plane will fall out of the sky, not 100% sure though.

Did you ask officials from Southern, why they want to sell the 787's ?

😂Oh come on. Just like any company, do you think they will give you more detail then the press? It will be "bussiness" decision and to "realign" our new Xxx strategy.

Great plane, until it's grounded. If you can get one. Which you can't. Just go Airbus.

The problems with Boeing delivering planes has put Cathy Pacific in a bind. Boeing is years behind in scheduled delivery. They might be interested.

Isnt Cathy moving to 350 for long haul? I was on 350 during my trip to HKG earlier this year. I dont think Cathy really care about Boeing or Airbus, as long as they are using RR engine.
