In this video, we start a new chapter in Chinaco's journey to the Bridle. The focus is on "feel" and absolute understanding on the part of the horse. We also have an interesting find - an old saddle made by Otto Ernst of Sheridan WY. If anyone has information on the value of this saddle or any stories about the maker, please comment below. For more information, head over to our website www.thediscipli... . Please take a moment to hit the Like button, Subscribe to our channel, and Share with your friends. Thank you for watching!

Good morning 🌞 I just wanted to say that I'm not a ranch or horse person. What I am is a horse lover and l also have a deep appreciation for folks like you and your wife. Started watching because I was hoping that there would be a horse or donkey in my future when I retired on some land in the desert....just wishful thinking since this pandemic has me thinking it's time to retire (early) and money will be an issue. Love to watch you with Chinaco, and the relationship you have with him, and horse in general. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and stories. ❤️ From Fallbrook California...soon to be an Arizona desert rat.

When Pat was a kid, he used to ride his horse to the Perry General Store in Bonsall. Just a little reminiscence...

You might call or write King Ropes in Sheridan, WY and send them some pictures. They have a saddle museum upstairs in their shop and may know something about your saddle.

There is a regular column in Western Horseman magazine where they discuss the origin and value of old gear and saddles called "What's it worth". You could contact them and send pictures, the writer is very knowledgeable and has great contacts for getting information on saddles. You might even get your saddle used for a story in the magazine. Comments about laying a hat on a bed?

Regarding water - there is a saying in Wyoming (and throughout the Mtn West)... "Whiskey is for drinking, Water is for fighting!" That kinda lines up with Pat saying "If you don't have water, you might as well cut your throat, you're done". Thanks Pat and Deb for always delivering great content!

Down the road in Buffalo - Still ride a rough out my dad bought in 1967 on one particular horse. I've got another with the Pelican horn that was built in the late fifty's or early sixty's, but without the flowers - your's is a beauty. Kings has a few Ernsts scattered through their museum. Haven't heard on any commanding much on the collectable market, but that one appears to be in beautiful shape!

Love watching Mr. Pat's journey with Chinaco! He appears to be getting lighter and lighter as he gets older. Will he wind up grey like his mama? Thanks from Tennessee.

$400 - $700 for lesser conditioned ones. Some earlier ones in very good condition go at auction for $1,500.

Only learned of the saddle-makers themselves from link in comments. A friend and mentor once told me you can get a General age ideal by the number of saddle string points on saddle. Starting with 8 as the oldest. Some time in the last century they started removing them and used screws with a finish washer to hold the areas down. In the past 20 years I see custom saddle makers are going back to the strings on the ranch saddle. I have one now I need to replace a couple and rewrap the horn. With help of Mr. Google I found that the Blevins stirrup buckles were invented and patented in 1964

Got me googling, turned up this californiauctioneers.hibid.com/lot/55721187/otto-ernst-leather-tooled-rodeo-saddle/?q=&ref=lot-list . Looks to be a bit older, but not much, seat rigged, sold for $600. Owned and used on the Rodeo circuit in the 1960s-70's by Bronco Buster and American Rodeo rider John Martin of Los Feliz, California. Ernsts were in business from 1902-1975.

This is a little off the subject but I live on the Alberta prairies and some years are real bad for mosquitoes. I'm not sure if they get bad down your way but if so how do you deal with them?
@PatnDebPuckett
@PatnDebPuckett 4 жыл бұрын
We don’t have any mosquito problems here. Mostly because we don’t have standing water...anywhere! For face flies, Pat uses clear Swat around the horse’s eyes. Our friends in Maine use those crocheted ear covers like you see in the English world and they soak them in fly spray before putting them on their horses’ heads to keep them from going crazy from the deer flies and the black flies. I’ve also heard that Avon Skin So Soft works great for mosquitos mixed in to your regular fly spray. We sure are lucky to live in the desert where we don’t have to deal with such things.

Over the years we tried a lot of products including home remedies but they'd sweat it off so fast it was kinda useless.
