I think a lot of people forget that University is still a money maker. They have people who invest millions into these schools and they still have to appease them. Life just isn't built on merit, it's more based off connections. Plenty of people are as dumb as a rock who hold master degree's as educators, but all they did was just network/pay their way through completing assignments etc.etc. meanwhile others are working hard and hit the wall of opportunity way earlier than half the morons who have a door opened for them. Kind of like how pretty people go through life much easier than someone who is unpleasant to look at lol..

There is a variety of reasons as to why he didn't get accepted but I think the main one is being "too perfect" not just applying to him but most Asians. Asians we grew up with trying to be perfect in everything but at the same time, that is also our downfall. We have been drilled from the beginning to get good grades and we end up losing sight of everything else that matters. Your personality its just as important as your grades. I have seen the Asians in college that get the good grades, and they are an eyesore. they are very quiet and sometimes don't have many friends they are the closest thing to robots. The misconception is that college do not want perfect, they want someone who can grow.

This reminds me of a super smart Chinese kid I knew in high school. He would read a paragraph from the textbook in 10 seconds and tell you what is said perfectly. Anyway, when it came to social situations he was very forest gump like. One dude at out table was joking when he said that he was gonna get him in trouble with the teacher. The Chinese dude couldn’t tell he was joking so he offered the dude 20 bucks "to not tell on him". Also I heard that the GPAs and test scores are so competitive, in situations like this smart kids get rejected because lack of leadership skills as a way to differentiate between the applicants.

Big thing people don’t put into consideration is who else is applying to these schools. Everyone they accept is that near perfect SAT and GPA, but the ones they take are the ones that showed they did something more than study, and it doesn’t have to be sports. Harvard has all these geniuses applying, but they’d want the kid who had those grades or maybe a tad bit lower and started a small business in high school or a nonprofit or something that makes them different than the rest

School donations don’t count as bribes as long as the money isn’t going (directly) into the admission person’s pockets. All schools require successful alumni to financially back them up to grow bigger. They give you opportunity to get higher pay and you give them money when you make it. It’s the same thing for parents raising kids so they can take care of them. The students are their investment for the future. They have a stock in their alumni. Churches have that system too except that’s religious, the members of the church are happy because they have community and god and donate to the church so the church can grow and market their events.

there are plenty of "dumb" kids, if compared to their peers in ivy league.. a lot get in through legacy admissions, like from certain parents/families that have gone to the school before... this also ensures a steady donations to the ivy league... If this the same story I am thinking of, he blamed black people for his problems. Who are probably 3% in all of higher education of this level and unrepresented, while Asians are overrepresented, not the legacy admissions which are almost half of entrants. It has been proven that a good portion of the legacy children couldn't pass on their own. The reason he even got a chance was black people fought and instead of fighting for only black people decided to be inclusive which bit them in the ass because white women and every other group had the advantage and now he is crying about and now poof gone, nobody will be happy. Truth is black people never had affirmative action work well for them. I am going with Joe, all those schools and got dismissed. And look at his response: "The problem was affirmative action!" This was a "him" problem.

what bs. Its straightup dissonance or symantic manipulation to make any competitive environment a 'representation problem'. Colleges are supposed to educate ones who want it, and the better the college, they choose more advanced candidates to fulfil their requirements. Do you want representation in sports? Historically every level of sports inclusion is adversarial to east asians, middle-school through college

Have to think about money for admissions and who they want to admit. It’s not just one type or characteristic, and there are probs admissions people and even whole college’s that have racial biases. But generally, they’d want people who are likely to stay 4 or more years, pay tuition (may be less incentivized the more grant/gov money they get), and are more likely to give back if they become successful. Being super smart can make someone a shoe-in to stay 4 years academically, but if they are in the Asian stereotype of being academics only, non-interactive socially, they may be less likely to have school spirit or build it in others. School spirit can turn into good feelings and gratitude for an institution, and can lead alums to giving a few hundred or thousand bucks, and that can add up with thousands of new alums a year. So basically, good grades can at most help show a student has the ability to do the work and stay paying tuition all 4 years. At a certain point a 1590 and a 1570 don’t mean much to even the best schools academically, so they’ll likely care about other parts that can show you’ll be a good fit for the college and good alum after.

Exactly why when they say they look at the whole person, they look at more than those cookie cutter things. They think of it like nerd kids just checking boxes. It's an achievement, it's difficult, but not a unicorn. So that's why doing something more than checking boxes is better. Something like going and doing anything with a real interest you have. For instance, I'm a biology major and art minor. And when people hear that, they LOVE ME. My boss literally hired me at my university tutoring job because he thought about me as an art student who knows chemistry. But I'm a bio major who knows chem and does art. He didn't listen to me tho, he thought about me how he wanted to. And the way he did made him choose me, when there were other candidates who were the same as me. Science majors with previous work experience as a tutor. I bet some had better grades than me, but I was the more interesting one. I want to say, too, that I get told that if I apply to medical schools, I will get in. It pays to be interesting. It pays to be different. Some of my coworkers were math, physics, and biology majors. So they were the most useful to him, he used them the most for all of what they could do. It's better to be interesting.

In the coming years, we're probably gonna see entire college classes filled with majority Asians or internationals. Now that affirmative action is "illegal," there is nothing preventing unequal selection bias toward Asian students. Given that Asian families strongly emphasize academic prestige compared to their ethnic counterparts, we can almost predict what will happen. As an Asian-American who was subject to affirmative action, I can't imagine a fair admission process without it, but am curious to see what other measures schools put in place to diversify their student population.

When it comes to higher education, no other minority has benefited from Affirmative Action more than Asians. Example around 1965 when Affirmative Action was created the student population of U.C Berkeley or other U.C was around 3 to 4 percent. They changed the purpose of affirmative action. It used to be for correcting historical racism which benefitted Asians. Has nothing to do with race admissions into these colleges are a crapshoot. Academics no matter how stellar will never alone get you into these schools. It is a prerequisite that is expected by all students. A personal story of mine my white friend got a 1580 and A's every year in IB classes. He did not get into a single elite school.

Idk I think you should have other things going for you besides just good scores. I talked about family, my volunteering, hobbies along with my good grades. Relying solely on good scores and grades won’t make you stand out to universities 🤷🏻‍♀️ Huge emphasis on volunteering or internships. My school forced us to get our own internships and it made my college application look way more appealing to schools. Also this idea that you automatically should be let in to any school you apply to because of your grades is crazy. Realize that a ton of people are aiming for these top schools so your chances are already slim compared to if you had just gone to another university.

Oh boy i gotta go in as black who is father to half Asian children. So do I want my son being discriminated based on race absolutely not but the part people keep missing is 1. It’s not purely based on test scores. These schools get thousands of identical application from kids who all have 1590s. To people like me who got a 1210 that sounds insane but I’m part of the middle not the upper echelon. So using just scores is not a good metric. They also don’t want a campus of identical people. Good ideas and innovation come from different backgrounds not just everyone who got perfect scores. If agriculture is going to be huge deal as climate change gets worst do you want a student body filled with kids who all got perfect test scores or add some kids who actually worked on a farm? And let’s keep it real this kid is going to Georgia Tech there aren’t any job opportunities he won’t have that the Cal Tech or MIT kids are going to get. He’s fine.

When it comes to this subject, the politicaly correct thing to do is act dumbfounded and ignorant as to why it happened. Remember, Pres.
