Because Xi is a foreign guest, David Cameron is the home leader. It's like if you went to a friend's (Cameron) gathering and they brought a guest (Xi) who is visiting from out of town. You'd stand up to be respectful and hospitable, and give a good image of yourself since you represent the the community. The same manner could be given to Cameron but Xi being a foreign/diplomatic matter far outweighed in importance. Plus, Cameron said he's been to this place several times so maybe they're already familiar with him around.

@@smartboy-gk7xb I think it is just silliness. But since you mentioned the border, let us look at the facts. China has had border disputes with 16 countries since 1949. By 2010 it had resolved 14 of them via negotiations. They resolved a tough dispute with Russia settling inch by inch. over 15 years. Only two disputes remain, essentially one viz., India and Bhutan. The two disputed areas are Aksai Chin and Arunachal Pradesh. Aksai Chin is shown as part of Ladakh in India maps, but has been under Chinese administration since 1945. This area was demarcated in 1865 by a British India surveyor named Johnson before India became a country. Post independence India just maintained the same line as the border. The Chinese contention is that Aksai Chin was always part of China and they were not consulted in the demarcation. Hence the dispute. Arunachal Pradesh was also demarcated by the McMahon line, a result of a 1914 agreement between Tibet and the British without Chinese consultation. China has never recognized that agreement since Tibet was part of China and not a separate country. In 1960 Zhou En Lai proposed a settlement to both disputes to Nehru. India gives up its claim on Aksai Chin and China will give up its claim on Arunachal Pradesh. Nehru refused to accept, fearing he might suffer politically within India. It may be noted that Chairman Mao was also taking a political risk with this offer. Nehru's refusal stoked tensions within China so much it led to the 1962 war. This would have been a closed chapter in my opinion had Nehru accepted the Chinese offer. No politician within India has the courage to negotiate and close this dispute because it would be political suicide in the current political system. This issue will not go away so easily. Plenty of blame to go around.
