Under Zuma and Ramaphosa GDP $368 Billion & $386 Billion respectively, electricity price R0,80 kWh and R2.00 kWh respectively, Petrol R14,00 and R23,00 respectively, Rand/Dollar Exchange R14,40 and R18,40 respectively. You see we have gotten poorer and our buying power has been greatly reduced to a point salary doesn’t beat inflation. It's my understanding that China never intended to compete abroad in the gas automobile market, just the EV market. However, demand internally collapsed for gas vehicles. The Chinese government already subsidized the auto industry quite heavily internally, as the local population could barely afford the reduced prices, and have continued to do so for the foreign market. That $20K per vehicle subsidy has given the Chinese cars a huge price advantage over other cars particularly when tariffs are low or are equivalent for competing countries.

I actually recetnly watched a video explaining very similar trends in Europe as well. The Chinese are taking over. Mercedes Benz has shutdown it's first fatory in Germany due to lack of sales. Another factor is eco-friendly development of cars. Chinese cars seem to be more effective and effective in their green car development. Akho mntu onemali. Kubi!😭😂

This thing that German manufactures will always take an opportunity to just put anything as optional is nonsense. The chinese cars have features that you can't even get as optional on the Germans for free. Unfortunately this comes with consequences as we see job losses on the assembly factories, let's hope chinese will soon have those locally without having too much effect on the pricing.

I just think they're becoming more prominent because they're actually releasing the cars here whereas before they only sold a few models in the African continent.

There is higher value proposition outside German brands to be honest. Manufacturers like Hyundai offer 7 year warranties and 150km service offerings. That's really high return on investment. These are the types in things important to consumers. Germans will continue to decline. priced themselves into a corner

Most of these look ugly as hell. The Haval and Jaecoo are the good looking ones, and maybe the Bakkes, the rest; aaaah.

I had 2 cars, GWM Steed which is now 13 years and a VW Polo TSI, guess what the polo gave countless and expensive problems, the customer service was horrible as VW couldnt Fix the issues and more issues kept coming. It died and the GWM still stands strong. Very cheap to maintain and more reliable than the VW. I had to sell the polo so. Chinese have really improved and arr quality.

Haval with all the bells and whistles = R450k guesstimate……. The bells and whistles in the Haval, put that into BMW, MERC, AUDI = R900k to R1.2 million 🤷🏽♂️ not a Chinese car fan, but I’m more of a fan of my bank account 😊

It's sad that in a country like South Africa that proclaims to be "so educated", we're always consumers. We always have someone to make decisions for us. Why have we not produced a car if we're "so educated"? Anyway, this deal was signed back in 2011 aiming that by 2021 such would happen, I guess there were delays hence the now influx of these cars. I am not against any trades but as an educated country, when are we gonna produce some things? Ow, I've forgotten that the whole country of "so educated" people has dilapidated, unemployment skyrocketed and so-called educated people with their qualifications are drowning in alcohol . . . What a shame!!!😟😟😟
