Great job on advertising the brands, I only realized it was and ad 4mins in, still watching, don't stress

To add to the appeal is the 40% drop in value after 2 years with only 30000km on the clock. Few car brands can manage such high depreciation.
@mrvatikakiАй бұрын
Only 40%? Would image them to be pretty worthless after 12 months already.

That's a significant point to consider when making a decision!

Honestly from what I've seen the drop in value on a Chinese car (this includes haval h6, tiggo 7 pro, haval jolion, tiggo 8 pro, p series and more) are very comparable to Korean cars such as Hyundai or Kia percentage wise. Many Toyotas don't even hold value now, look at the corolla cross, starlet and urban cruiser for proof. You can pick up a 2 year old rav4 for half of its original value. You'll only get good resale value on certain cars. Losing 30% on R400000 is a lot better than losing 30% on R850000.

You forgot to mention the quality. Chinese are not exactly known for after sales service and numerous complaints about lack of parts
@futoАй бұрын
surprise it's not BYD, since that is the biggest EV brand from China....maybe GWM and Chery were selling lots of ICE vehicles in South Africa
@ralphhiebner3925Ай бұрын
Clearly you forgot the BAIC brand which has a full production facility down in Port Elizabeth with Excellent warranty , Service Plan and After Sales Service.
@TheCarPlaceZAАй бұрын
Thanks for the comment! Unfortunately, we couldn't talk about every Chinese brand as there would be way too much to talk about in a single video. But yes, BIAC (who produces the Beijing as well as the B40) is certainly another Chinese brand that is also quite present here in SA! Just not as present as GWM and Chery's vehicles.

Interesting content....a definite shift towards Chinese brands is evident...and I would guess that people are gradually throwing off the "anything made in China is crap" perception, and accepting that there is now real competition amongst the top brands .
@TheCarPlaceZAАй бұрын
Yes! Car manufacturing is certainley a great place and opportunity for China to create new global perceptions for their manufacuring quality!

Everything made in china IS crap dude. Unless it is a US or EU brand made under supervision. This current wave of chinese bling that people are falling for will soon enough fall down, then everyone will be back to their trusty Toyotas and Fords etc.

Same here, in Indonesia early 2000s cherry cames with QQ dan Geely with Panda. Due to poor quality and government program (some issues said it was Japanese company initiative) launch Low Cost Green Car (LCGC program) that can match Chinese car price but with japanese durability makes Chinese car immediately sunks. But today, 2 decades later, Chinese cames with Wuling Cortez, Confero, successfull Almaz, and Alvez while Cherry return with Omoda. In term quality and design there's big improvement. And now with EV era, Wuling with Air EV, Binguo EV, Cloud EV, Cherry with Omoda EV and world's leader BYD, China leads our local market for EV cars, surpassing Hyundai woth Ionoq series.

As someone who works in the used car industry, I can say that the Chinese cars & bakkies are still not up to standard in terms of reliability and longevity! (And good luck with warranty claims, as they can be quite reluctant to honour them) Another aspect that wasn't mentioned is the generally poor resale values, and irritating drivers assist systems that can drive you crazy. Also, part availability is still an issue. My advice: Don't buy Chinese yet, wait a few years and see if they can get their qualities up to standard.
@TheCarPlaceZAАй бұрын
We actually tend to agree! We suggest waiting for these brands to play their course & show us the results. But in order to do so.. we need many consumers to buy their products and test them. Question is.. Are you going to be the one who takes that risk.. or... the one to wait..?
@travelmates1Ай бұрын
@TheCarPlaceZA Would I be insane enough to be a "lab rat" for the the Chinese to buy C-grade, unreliable and thirsty car - just so that they can eventually learn how to make decent / quality cars at the expense of hundreds of thousands of South African workers employed in the automotive manufacturing industry???
@mrvatikakiАй бұрын
@@TheCarPlaceZA Chinese are masters of deception with fancy 'doctored' videos and images, making everything look extremely good. Just move the mouse however, and the pretty screensaver disappears with the crap underneath coming out. Million km warranty can be a billion or lifetime. They will always have a clever story as to why the warranty is not valid. Like you should not have allowed the bug to fly into the windscreen as that caused the flat tyre that damaged the seat electronics, and therefore the warranty is now void. Nah. Give me a Toyota or Ford any day.

It's very dependant on which model. Chery definitely cuts some corners under the skin but I have thoroughly looked for flaws in the BAIC X55 and Haval H6 and it's hard to find any, both are better than a Toyota Rav4 in terms of build quality. The steel chassis on the BAIC is much better than toyotas on the rav. There is certainly room for improvement though. Chinese EVs are undoubtedly ahead of everyone else though and that's where they excel. I'm glad to say that parts availability is improving since they are opening warehouses for parts, BAIC also has a factory here and uses some Mercedes parts so you can get some important parts from Goldwagen. They're not perfect but I'd easily compare a BAIC BEIJING X55 PREMIUM to a KIA Sportage GT petrol, the BAIC has more power, genuine leather, more features and is half the price.
