As a Chinese son, I've learnt one thing over the years: Chinese parents will almost never directly tell their children they love them, but they'll sacrifice almost everything they have to support them to show their love
@justamustachewithoutaguy9370
@justamustachewithoutaguy9370 3 жыл бұрын
A lot of times it’s not love, it’s collectivism and a hint of narcissism. They sacrifice for you with the caveat that you’ll make something out of yourself and pay them back in the future. Take your college money and try studying art and history as your two majors, then see how much “love” they still have. It’s not that hard to say three words, and any parents who are unable to say them probably don’t truly love their child as a separate individual.
@Aquifilia
@Aquifilia 3 жыл бұрын
@@justamustachewithoutaguy9370 ....there seems to be a huge stereotype that all Asian parents want their kids to be lawyers, doctors, engineers or some shit, and that's completely not true. The main reason why they want you to take up one of three listed jobs listed above, is because they know that those jobs are well paying and can support a comfortable life. However, my parents have always told me, "We don't care what you want to do when you leave this house, as long as your profession can let you support yourself. If you can show us that you can support yourself with a comfortable amount of income, then go be an artist or musician." Stop just going to stereotypes dude. Not cool

Well at least u now know and hope other teachers realize this too. When a student is late, sleepy, has anger issues or whatever it all really stems from home and should not be blamed immediately, send them to the guidance counselor first thats why they are there in school

If you hate this you will be probably be called lazy even tho they probably hate it to or dumb for some odd reason even tho most of the kids learn stuff off the internet reather then from school because it's so old and they keep it like this so they can make an obidient slave out of you reather then an open minded educated person, just look at Japan their whole culture was based around this ideea. One comes from China and she worked in healthcare, the other comes from Vietnam. I’m so impressed by their ability to keep up with the studies even though it’s not in a language they’re used too. Many people may mistakenly believe that most Asians spend most of their lives studying. I am Japanese but our school life is totally different from China. My high school was one of the best in my city, but we started at 9:00 a.m. and finished at 3:30 p.m. We had weekends off. Without lunch and a brake, we only study about 5 hours in the school After class, most of the students participate in club activities until about 6:00 in the evening. I usually get home around 7:00, so I spend an average of 2 hours studying before going to bed after dinner and bathing. The only time I really study is during the semester of the university entrance exam, depending on the person. It seems that the Chinese spend most of their lives studying, but the Japanese are different.

As the son of two Chinese immigrants and first generation university student, I can ensure that the pressure we receive during our school years is often overwhelming. It has its benefits but surely it has its drawbacks too. On the one hand, we learn to be mentally strong and resilient plus we get more used to hard work and dedication. On the other hand, sometimes we endure unhealthy levels of stress and anxiety that can lead to mental illnesses, we also miss out for many things that people our age experience but we are too busy or controlled to experience. I'm currently an offer holder for an economics undergraduate at London School of Economics waiting for my exam results. Sometimes I feel like people like me get judged in the sense that the fact that we are Asian somehow makes our accomplishments less valuable. It's like "Oh he got into this amazing university, but, you know, he's Asian, so there's nothing surprising." However, it's not something that bothers me too much. I guess that people always try to take away from anyone's accomplishments in some way or another, it's just that it annoys me that my race and culture are the excuses that some people put to take away from what I have achieved.

I had an offer to do maths and finance at a Russell group university and Economics at LSE. What work did you want to do when graduated?
@davidzhan
@davidzhan 3 жыл бұрын
@@annajones9701 Hey Anna. Congratulations on your offers, that's awesome. Answering your question, tbf, the reason I want to go to uni is not bc I think that will have a positive impact on my future salary or bc I want to work in a specific field. Actually, my sole purpose to go to college is academic interest. I'm very interested in economics and I like the mathematics involved. During my high school years I've read and investigated a lot on many areas within the subject of Economics such as distributional economics and labor market. I'm eager to be in an environment surrounded by brilliant minds and with great knowledge in this area of my interest. My job after college will probably have nothing to do with what I study - or yes, we never know. That's why I only applied to top tier schools (Cambridge, LSE, Princeton, Berkeley, UChicago...). If my grades do not meet my offers, I won't go to college. Instead, I'll go to culinary school. The fact is that I have always had the dream of owning a restaurant because I'm very passionate about food and, in fact, pretty talented too. I assume LSE is your offer with highest requirements and you already set it as your firm choice. However, if you haven't set a firm choice yet, I would recommend you to choose that one you really want to go and think you would be happy attending to for the next 3-5 years. If you like finance, go for it. If you like economics, that's great too. But I would recommenf not to choose a subject because "it will be good for your future." Hope this is helpful :)

Hey man, that’s a nice comment. I also believe that kids should get all types of “education” other than pure academia. However, I believe that’s a very first world problem for us in NA to have. For many of these kids still, their families have really poor SES, they simply can’t afford to dedicate their time to things other than studying for exams because of the IMMENSE competition due to the population. For richer kids, they have better resources, able to afford better teachers & schools, therefore having better studying efficiency and higher chance of getting into top universities. They are the ones that can afford an all around education and growth outside of pure studying. For these kids however, what else can they do besides studying more and more when millions upon millions of other kids are studying trying to take that spot you want? Overall it’s just a really cruel space of competition, and the “rich gets richer” Matthew effect continues. Despite China having achieved an enormous economic growth, its wealth gap problem is the same as the US and anywhere else. So I’m just sad that they don’t have any other choice besides enduring through these times and sacrificing their youth, in the hopes that they can change their life and achieve more freedom in the future. Meanwhile, I’m just glad and thankful for being in North America 🙏

@@MGMG-sz6ij nice comment as well. I fully agree. Seems like a intern sociological problem we can’t fully understand. I my self am from Germany. Born and raised here but with a migration background which makes me the second generation of my family here. My family also had financial drawbacks, since they had the language barrier and academical problems. Those lightly reflected on my growing up here as well, since the Germans don’t recognize me as one of them, but funny as it seems the Turkish people (where I’m originally from) don’t see me as a Turk either. But that’s an whole other topic. The point I’m trying to make is although my family had really really hard times and issues living here, they still managed to not force me into becoming academically successful, they’d probably be more happy if I became a doctor or something but still support me now as a design student now. And I’m really grateful for that.

@TruthSight Gamer We do mind. We mind our languages as well as English. We are taught from a very young age to understand and learn grammar perfectly. Maybe, our pronunciation might not be the most accurate since it is influenced by our mother-tongue but we do work hard on the languages we know. India is strict in places it needs to be, but we have a tolerable education system. Our parents are compassionate and like every Asian parent, they care for their children's well-being. They sacrifice their needs for their children, too.

Education is being turned mostly into a tool which would give you a good job. The pleasure of studying is minimal

the pleasure of studying? a tool that would give you a good job? this type of peoples finding excuses when they don’t get a good grade because they are lazy... they never taste something called working hard do you think the reason when someone gets A bcs they are smart? THAT’S NOT THE REASON! when they study all day, they sacrifice their sleeping times, times for hangout with their family, friends, etc! then someone who’s got D who never studies blaming the system and finding many excuses! I believe everyone got their own talent but pls, when you are at school then you should study for your own good, you will regret if you are lazy at school after you are graduating!
@emilheroyt
@emilheroyt 3 жыл бұрын
@@pandarappers3216 Well, the problem is that good grades only show how well you fit in a system which forces you to learn every subject. The purpose of education is to learn something and to make use of it. But if you are being thaught stuff of which 90% of it will never be used in life, this will only be a waste of time because you will forget it after a short period of time. The key of education is concistency and not only hard work. I still appreciate people who receive good grades. The same probably also can be said by "siyaram kumar". But that does not mean that we are using excuses for bad grades but rather criticize the system. Even good students are pointing out this issue. Just because someone has bad grades doesnt mean that he is lazy but rather has other interests than just school (e.g. playing an instrument or learning a skill which is useful).

It‘a like playing Pokémon. If your Pokémon level is high enough to fight another Pokémon. You can win and level up a bit. The more you fight the more you level up. But you also need to heal your Pokémon as well due to damages. If you Pokémon level is too high and fight a level 1 Pokémon you level up a bit but that’s way too small.

No one in my family finished school had to drop out either too poor or work to look after family. So I always valued the school- A lot of children here don't appreciate the opportunities they have, the majority of them literally never had to properly struggle. The teacher would spend most the lesson controlling the class. It's funny when I see these of people on social media all these later. You reap what you sow.

Chinese education promotes equality and social mobility. Whether you come from a humble family or an upper middle class, this exam is fair to all that can self-study.
