I was astudent in Beijing years ago and yes, people are friendly and nice .. curious about foreigners... Only bad thing is sometimes they treat you like an object or even a pet... Many dinner invites and invitations but eventually you realize some gain clout by knowing you... Not everyone is really your friend... It shows a sign of appreciation, which I don't see much in the West. It's easy to see the hunger for knowledge Chinese people have about other cultures. Living in the USA it's easy to take for granted how many cultures we are exposed to in larger cities. I'm a black guy like you in China but I'm a total introvert, and don't speak their language. I got a Chinese girl through her initiating things. My chinese girl isn't extroverted but she posts the occasional selfies of me and her on her social media profile(99% of girls have some sort of social media). I just spent May holiday in SH with my girl. She intiated the whole trip and posted a few of our selfies on her social media. In my experience, when a girl is in love or in a new relationship she generally can't help but want to show off her new man to friends and family. My Chinese girl is like this.This is because they feel proud and get super excited and emotional especially in the early days of love. Such a secretive Chinese girl seems weird to me.
