The real Forbidden City, like this model, is mostly only nice to look at from the outside. It's sad really. It's the largest palace complex in the world with only 40% of it open and that which is open, the inside of the buildings are which are meant to be preserved to look like they would during the time of the last dynasty are all dusty and in disrepair. Give or take a few showrooms, there's really not much else. Once you see that, than all the rest of it is just red walls yellow rooftops. The most intriguing aspect is just to know what events transpired in the different buildings (like weddings, betrayals, political decisions, etc.).
