Kicking myself for selling the one I had. It was not in too bad a condition, but the barrel was about the same as you describe. I had some sucess with a brass brush wrapped in steel wool, and a bit of metal polish. I probably spent a couple hours or more cleaning her up. Wish I still had it, but extra funds helped buy something better. Great bit of history and explanation on your Chinese Mauser. Thanks.

Just bought a parts gun. It needs the arm guard & bolt. The bolt will be a chore to find & fit for head spacing.

"The Type Chiang Kai-shek rifle (Chinese: 中正式), also known as the Zhongzeng/Jiang Jieshi Rifle (depending on the romanization of Chinese), Generalissimo rifle and Type 24 (二四式), named after the Chinese Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek, was a Chinese-made copy of the German Standardmodell rifle, the forerunner of the Karabiner 98k. Pre-production of the Chiang Kai-shek rifle started in 1935 (year 24 of the Republican calendar, hence the Type 24). It was designated the Type 79 by the Chinese Communists." [Wikipedia] Somethings might not be worth fixing. It's still possible to buy some quality firearms in Canada. = Much better than 'fixing-up' an old rifle. [Of course the Chinese Mauser might have sentimental value for GunGeek.]

These are more rare than people realize. The Chinese used the crap out of this rifle which explains the quality. Early pattern Mausers with the straight bolt handle are my favorite.

So I have one of these that has just the year "1937" dated on the top of the receiver. A number 22768 on the left side of the receiver. A number 13382 on the left side of the stock. Another number on the same side that is very faded and hard to read. A small "BK" marking on the left side with a circle around it. Also on the left side of the receiver closer to the loading gate "CESSKOSLOVENSKA ZBROJOVKA, A.S, BRNO VZ.24" Course you probably already knew that last part but I thought I'd throw that little bit of info in there. Mine passes the bore test. Just wanted to ask cause you said thesd rifles are rarer then people realise. What does that day about mine? And what information can you find out about mine?

@@daskriegsman7013 it’s a hard market in America because people are resentful of the Chinese. Ian from forgotten weapons has a video about Chinese Mausers where he interviews a collector you can look up. There’s Chinese collectors who would go crazy for your rifle I’m sure.
