As a Chinese I'm pretty proud that marriages between people from different creeds and backgrounds are generally tolerated in China. Sadly, this cannot be said for many other countries. This is one of the best videos. Quite exceptional in that it examines the convergence of differences into that of acceptance and respect. This wedding, I see that there are quite a few Han traditions like negotiating at the door, tea ceremony for the parents... in this is quite interesting in that normally the bride and groom are to kneel in front of the parents (Han) to honour with tea but in Islamic tradition people only kneel to God and no one else so the bride and groom in this case don’t kneel to the parents but still pay respect with tea. Compromise is also a Chinese tradition.

They are not of different ethnicities but of different religious backgrounds. Hui refers to Muslim Chinese whereas the Uighurs are of a different ethnicity (they are not Han Chinese) and are Muslims.

Hui Muslims are different from Han who converted to Islam. Hu Muslims' looks vary from middle eastern to more Han look, depending on how frequent have their ancestors intermix with the Han. Whereas the Tajiks (indo european) of China still look mostly Tajiks is becuase they usually don;t allow intermarriage to preserve their ethnicity.

I found the wedding very interesting. The secular wedding could have been out of a Hugh Grant movie. I did not expect English on the wall. All that was missing was dancing ,but maybe I missed that. The couple look like they could have been in Minnesota. It all seem so familiar but with a few differences. The traditional wedding reminded me of going to Jewish friends wedding with the canopy. It was just wonderful to see a happy couple and share their day, thank you. Now remember when looking for a guy, your not his mother, you work, so he does his own laundry, makes the bed ,cleans the house, and shares in cooking dinner. It is important for the guy to do this stuff, so that he is grown up and not a kid expecting his mom to do for him. You stay warm.
