Tireless and Unremitting: The Chinese and Nevada's Railroads
In this edition of Exploring Nevada we look at the major contributions made by the Chinese who came to the American West in the 19th century to build the Central Pacific Railroad. Historian Dr. Sue Fawn Chung is your on-camera guide as you travel to Verdi, Nevada to visit a Chinese lumber camp excavation.
Next youll tour a special exhibit at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City. This exhibit traces the story of Chinese in Nevada as they settled in railroad towns throughout the state, bringing their rich cultural traditions. The video includes testimonials from Forest Service Archaeologist Greg Hines and archaeology volunteer Shirlaine Kee Baldwin whose grandfather was a Chinese lumberman and labor contractor for the Nevada railroads.
