That's slightly different because sometimes they aren't actually speaking English... They are speaking Japanese with English loan words. For example ice cream and chocolate. アイスクリーム And チョコレート. It's like if you're ordering chow mein at a Chinese takeaway, you aren't actually speaking Chinese, you're still speaking English. Chow mein is a Chinese loan word that can now be found in English dictionaries.

@王煜-e2l

This was so funny, I can see how my mom and friends who are taking mandarin can relate to this. I left China when I was 6 years old and immigrated to Canada. I can speak Mandarin, English and French. Somehow I don’t have an accent for any of the three and sound just like the locals. The teachers are always surprised when they realized I was fluent, since I look Chinese but I sound just like any other native Canadian. What’s funny is when someone who I don’t know me talk about me behind my back in English or French thinking that I don’t understand but actually do.

My reason for learning Chinese is the same as my reason for learning Spanish. I used to be obsessed with Spanish soap operas and I decided to learn Spanish(pretty much understood everything just from watching soap operas and listening to music, before even getting spanish classes). So I thought, I listen to chinese music and watch their movies and tv shows, I can learn Chinese it can't be that hard.... The bloody tones are a menace. I have 4 different tones in my own native language that I sometimes mess up because I'm from the north of my country while the standard tones are spoken in the middle of my country. So I hate tones even in my own language but Chinese takes it to a whole new level. 😂
