Chinese pop singer caught lip syncing attempted suicide after this mistake

One of China's first pop singers to be fined for lip-synching, Fang Ziyuan, has allegedly tried to commit suicide, according to a Chengdu newspaper. Fang and her co-worker Ying Youcan, were accused of lip-synching their guest appearance at a Chinese pop diva's concert last year.
Fang had grown up in Chengdu, learning to dance there. She had later moved on to Shanghai Film Academy, graduating as a performing professional. In September last year, she became the backup singer for superstar Huang Shenyi (黄圣依) - better known as the girl with the lollipop in Stephen Chow's Kung Fu Hustle - at a concert in Chengdu. In November, she and Ying Youcan were tried and fined for having their microphones turned off while pretending to sing.
They were the first to be punished under China's new laws banning lip-synching, which were put in place right after a controversial act at the Beijing Olympics.
Both protested that the fines were unfair - not only was it not their own decision to lip-synch, and argued that officials were looking for easy targets: picking at random nobodies while allowing established stars to continue. Plus, since they were only back-ups, neither of them had the cash to pay the 50,000RMB fine.
It is unclear whether Fang Ziyuan, 21-years-old, tried to commit suicide because of that, though her agent has said so. According to her agent, "Fang and I are neighbors. I was at home resting when her roommate suddenly wouldn't stop knocking on my door... 'Fast, save Ziyuan, she's attempted suicide!' I immediately went to her house and found her in the bathroom, with her wrists bleeding profusely. We immediately helped her up, wrapped her wrists in towels and rushed to the hospital."
