Cheuk Kwan's Chinese Restaurants

In the hills of San Fernando is the Great Wall, the most famous Chinese restaurant on the island. This is a rags-to-riches story of owner Maurice Soong, whose passion for quality and service has won him widespread affection and respect. As they dance to the infectious calypso music of the island’s annual Carnival, members of the Soong family reflect on how their assimilation and personal choices will affect Maurice's beloved restaurant.

Wow, I love this! It reminds me of my parents and all of my relatives. True Trinidadian.

As a Trinidadian, I absolutely loved this. I think Chinese-Trinis are some of the coolest people tbh. I'm from the North-West of the island and I only went to Soong's for the first time earlier this year and I loved it.

I just finished reading your book, "Have You Eaten Yet?" and enjoyed it greatly. Now I discover that you are also on KZbin and I am enjoying it too! I share your interest in Chinese restaurants and try to frequent them when abroad and engage the owners or employees in conversation if they are not too busy. My family owned two Chinese restaurants in the Seattle area.

Wonderful stories!! I recently found the book - Have You Eaten Yet? in the library, and it caught me right away at first sight of it. I'll try to leave a comment later when I finish reading the book. Thanks, Mr. Kwan. for doing this. It's a great contribution.

Thank you Mr. Kwan for making these awesome documentaries. Did you ever make one in Jamaica? Chinese were deeply involved with the development of reggae music, which is how I came to discover the long history of Chinese in Jamaica, but I don’t know how much they influenced the local culinary culture. I’d love to hear some stories from there.

I always thought it odd but foodwise Chinese food isn't popular in Jamaica but yes, the Chinese are in the music industry bigtime in JA, but it's the Afro-Jamaicans who have sll the talent though...

It's not weird They are caribbean, trini people like everyone else. To not have the accent would be strange.
