I've had a Taotao for almost 2 years with no problems. Changed oil when needed, fuel filters, etc. Oil used was always full synthetic, fuel was always 91 octane, and spark plugs were NGK. No problems and still runs great. Take care of it and it will serve you well.

I bought a used 250 Chinese scooter that didn't run for $700. I know taken a chance, but I got a new battery from local fleet farm for 30 bucks and a new carb from amazon for 35 bucks. I put the new parts in and tried it and it started right up and runs like a champ it does 65mph down the highway with no problem. The only complaint I have is the plastic body parts they are cheap and break very easy. So this is my thought on Chinese scooters if you can work on them yourself and enjoy it get one but if you can't get a Japanese scooter.

When I bought my 150 cc Chinese scooter 11 years ago I just picked one in the shop. I had no idea of which ones were good or no good... for about 7 years I let the mechanic do the service and fix problems that just got progressively worse. I realised I had to do the maintenance myself in order to ensure it was done right. However, 11-12 years down the road the scooter is still running fine, actually it runs better now than it ever did during the first 7 years. When it comes to vehicles my Chinese scooter is probably then best vehicle I've ever owned in terms of reliability. Spare parts are cheap and easily available. The GY6 motor was designed by Honda so it is durable and free of design flaws.
@ZnenTitan6 жыл бұрын
I did a ground up rebuild on my 250 Chinese scooter. Because it's a Honda clone motor I can replace any "iffy" components with higher quality stuff. And speaking of maintenance, my mechanic charges reasonable rates (I see him in the bathroom mirror every morning LOL!) So now critical parts such as engine valves, the starter clutch, starter motor etc, are all OEM Honda.

I've had my Peace Sports moped for over 2 years now, and this is my first owned moped. I had 2 other ones but different colors (used), but one got stolen, and the other one totaled due to an accident. This particular brand is pretty reliable in my opinion, didn't have too many major problems aside from replacing a few small parts during the first year. I got mines from my local dealer, brand new, for $675 since they are cheaper at the end of the season. Within the 2 years I had mine, it instantly got rusty and some bolts broke off since I live in an apartment and have to keep my moped outside, exposed to all the elements.(really annoying always finding spiders and other creepy crawlies making my moped their home lol.) But as long as it gets me from point A to B I am happy.

I had one, don't remember the brand, bought off the 'net; it worked fine for about six months, then suddenly stopped. I never did find the problem (I'm an AMI grad,) and finally sold it. The other thing that is a bit confusing is how many of these "brands" seem to roll out of the same assembly lines located in places like Zhejiang province. I grew up knowing that a Mercury Marquis was just a rebadged Ford Crown Victoria. I can deal with that. But Chinese branding appears to be much more fluid, and with clones of clones of clones, apparently manufactured with hand-me-down dies and machining, knowing what kind of animal you're buying gets to be a little problematic.

IF you reply back with contact information I can contact you and see what we need to get this work going on mine. I have two little round headlight bulbs on mine and would like to upgrade to LED bulbs if possible for two reasons. Better vision at night and when idling vs driving the headlights are dim then brighten up. This isn't generally the case with LED lights I've found on regular Automotive vehicles such as my Chevy Tahoe (05) and Chevy Impala (06). The Tahoe I am original owner on and the impala was a fleet vehicle before I bought it a year old with 40k miles and enough warranty left to get about 3k of stuff replaced the first week after I bought it as some stuff came up and the dealer was able to squeeze them thru as warranty. Let the replies roll in please. OH the model number on my scooter is MP-050C-JCL which is the stickers on the side.

Also I noticed it listed the oil types to use but in the video you confirmed what I wondered about which was that they could use Synthetic Oil. The engine oil on the moped is listed as 15W-40 which was what we'd use in semi trucks when I drove for 13 1/2 yrs up until 10yrs ago before going on disability due to back issues. I'd worked on class 8 semi trucks, trailers, welded trailers, trucks, gas tankers prior to that after coming out of the Army in late 1993. I'd also like to find a heavy duty shock as I see my shock is leaking oil which had I seen before that I would've bargained more. I feel kind of robbed at paying $480 and then 3 days later buying a battery. I won't have to get it licensed but will just have to transfer the title.

I have a 2011 taotao I bought off Craigslist for $350 in basically new condition with 450km on it and it's been the most reliable one I've owned.. and there have been many over the past 15 years, including a ruckus! The only thing I've replaced was the carb when it wouldn't start after I let it sit for a month or two. It's now up to around 2000km. I ride 20 miles to work and back every day plus local errands and rides for fun. It's surprisingly good. Local shops won't service them but the place down the street carries parts so it's not all bad, I don't mind doing a little work here and there and there are videos for everything on KZbin. There are definitely some lemons out there but if you get a decent and keep your expectations reasonable, they can be a great deal. Insurance is about $100 a year and registration is $6 for three years in Colorado.

I got my 2006 Honda Metropolitan for $700 on craigslist. It was sold to me with 10,000+ miles, running slow, and was backfiring, but all it really needed was an imitation honda fuel pump and fuel filter ($20), a Briggs and Stratton Air Filter ($8 at Lowes), an NGK iridium spark plug ($8 at Amazon), and I went ahead and oil changed the engine to Royal Purple 10W-40 synthetic oil (+-$10), and the Gear Oil to Mobil 1 ($20). Registration in New York costs $6.50 per year, and progressive scooter insurance +-$100 a year. I'm now at 11,000 miles running strong, always pumping 93 octane fuel. And everything totalled to less than $1000, and gets me about +-90 MPG. In my opinion, get a Honda Metropolitan. My TaoTao is VERY problematic with starting, Carb cleaning, and all the other cheap sh*t and complications going on. Mind you, I'm not really mechanically inclined. The TaoTao was a headache, and failed me more than a handful of times, and Honda is real pleasure to own.

Like most things mechanical in nature, they will work at their best and last longer if the preventative maintenance is done as required. You covered a lot of important point in your video...run synthetic motor oil...and change it frequently. These small GY6 motors do not have screw on oil filters like a larger traditional motorcycle does. It's just a small mesh screen that is cleaned and reused with every oil change. All the more reason to be changing your motor oil regularly. Also, upgrading things like the battery, air filter, spark plug are all inexpensive and easy to perform. I especially agree with your comment about avoiding internet only dealer. That's definitely asking for trouble if you ask me. There's a guy who posted a video of his Roketa 150 that he put 26,000 miles on within 2 years of owning it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGe1aqqwjdaAe5Y . A dealership will snub u when it come to Chinese scooters. Those Vespa and Buddy 50cc are around the same price as a motorcycle. My 150cc Chinese scooter runs great for $1600

maybe...I've owned a Lancer for about a year. If you maintain it and replace the parts as needed it could last you a good while. Key word there is "could".

part 2, i decide to fix the lights at myself because the service in our country says i have waranty on the parts not the working hours. and if you know they asking 55 euro per hour wath means to expensive if i let do it to them. so i grab me a Screwdriver and started to find how it goes. after almost a half scooter dessembled to get on the lights and breaking some paper plastic the lights are ok. it seams relay etc.....

in my country we have the consumers guarantee that the seller has to honour, the three Rs repair, replace, refund, dealers are given the option to repair the scooter within a reasonable time, if they cant then they replace it, if there is not a replacement available they have to refund, as you will make out by this, those brands that broke down were sending the dealers into insolvency so there is only a couple of dealers left selling brands that are specific to them. one is Other and one is Roma they both use the same mechanics, honda clones, just different plastic body panels

I have had several, one thing for sure Kymko is a nightmare, Ben to 3 dealers, no spark, no Chinese parts fit,+ dealers know that.

Best to buy any scooter from a dealer. A lot of the mail order in the crate "put it together yourself" deals from China end up having problems with fraudulent factory titles, and you have a heck of a time putting it on the road with your state DMV.

Are you still in business? I don't understand why anyone looking for a Chinese scooter would go anywhere other than a reputable place like yours with excellent after service!!
@Tradeofjane5 жыл бұрын
If you have to change the carburetor on a Chinese scooter with a Japanese made one, you're better off just buying a Japanese scooter. Seriously, avoid Chinese made scooters as they are crap, will cost you more money over time, and are made out of low quality parts that will put your safety at risk.

High octane fuel is for high compression engines only. It does not improve power. If you have a low compression engine and you run high octane, it is a waste and over time will ruin your engine. If you’re spark plug runs hot, then higher octane might be needed as you want to prevent engine knocking. These 50cc scooters run fine with 85 octane. High octane does not mean more power!!
@markloris45453 жыл бұрын
It's the ethanol in the lower octane gas...premium octane has ZERO ETHANOL....which eats up your gaskets hoses vacuum and fuel lines etc....pay attention dude!!!!

Wild Hog Scooters, ha I love it. Check out my Wild Hog Scooter it looks like a little Harley! 150cc California Scooter Company made these to copy the old Mustang. With the Running Lights and Windshield they look just like a mini Harley. But I've got about 5 grand in it.

don't buy from wholesaleATV or mopedmotorsports, which is the same company. I paid in full and waited 5 months, then they called me and admitted they didn't know when I would get my scooter and the news was not good. then they charged me almost $100.00 for restocking fee. THIEVES. THEY DON'T DARE CHALLENGE ME, BECAUSE I STILL HAVE ALL OF THE SCREENSHOTS AND PHONE CALLS SAVED. I WOULD LOVE THEM TO TAKE ME TO COURT. EVERYTHING I AM SAYING IS TRUE.

Peace sports are crap, I have one, I work on them, I worked on a scooter shop. They break, they leak. The shocks, bushings, are bad. Basicly very poor quality.
@wildhogsscooters96946 жыл бұрын
mandapalque “break” is the proper spelling, and i have to disagree because I sell them everyday. I also have s great relationship with the company and any issues we have are always taken care of my peace sports. I’ve never in 5 years had a shock leak. Most issues people have with any Chinese scooter is lack of service, negligence and riding the crap out of the scooter.
@mandapalque6 жыл бұрын
Wild Hogs Scooters you sell them, you are going to defend them. They are crap compared to Yamaha, honda, kymco etc. I have worked on 2 shops and I own a peace sports. They are crap. The plastics brake so easily. The engines leak, period. You have to replace the oil retainers. Lucky for us there good like retainers out there. Leave a peace sports out side with the sun every day for a hole year and compare it with a yahama Zuma 125. Wolf brand scooters are better. But all the names you mentioned are very bad quality. Warranty??? If customers don't do the oil changes with the dealers they loose the warranty if there is any. Oil changes: 50 dollars. I can change my oil my self for 5 dollar with synthetic oil. 50 dollars x 12 months is 600 dollars. That warranty is BS. If someone wants a really good scooter go with big names. If you want to have a lot of problems buy a chinese.
@wildhogsscooters96946 жыл бұрын
mandapalque you are entitled to your opinion, a $799 Peace sports scooter you can not compare to a $2500 Honda or Yamaha, I agree that that are not too quality by any means, but we would be out of business if they were that bad as you describe.
@mandapalque6 жыл бұрын
Wild Hogs Scooters it is not my opinion: it is my reality supported by experience owning 2 150cc's. And by working on 2 shops. The only good ones are wolf brand scooters if you want to stay with GY6 engines.
@mandapalque6 жыл бұрын
Wild Hogs Scooters they are super friendly price wise and parts price wise. I love my GY6 engines. I can show to you a complete dozen of scooters from my friends with plastics broken. Engine s don't leak anymore cz we fix them. I do tell people they can buy Chinese scooters, but if they do not know or want to work on them I tell them go with great names.

Hard to tell? someone want the mother other the daughter?? I have had a Kymco Agility 50ccm it is made in Taiwan with a Gy6 engine on, goes wery good, the engine is a Honda engine, made on licens in Taiwan, and it is a very used engine today on most scooters,even them from China. Kymco maded the engines for Honda too. Today i have a used Chineese scooter, VGA called here in Denmark, it is a 2 stroke, goes tarrific, it is a Longjia built, but a big dealer here sold them as his own brand VGA....The world has chanced-when i was young we had several Moped factory´s here in Denmark......but it`s over....

sam3d because the ones I sell, I have a good relationship with the distributors and can get all parts to fix them and they really don’t have that many issues at all. We sell tons of scooters and not everyone can afford a $3000 Honda or Yamaha 50cc

Simply! Get baotian! Just get a new battery for 30 bucks. And cheap solder iron and electrick tape to secura all wires... dont fall at that carburator shit, just fucking drill it so you have full access...(pro tip if thia is legal in ur area: drill these litle valve thinks to larger=more power) and a simply remove that big bulgy ground stand! You will safe shitton of cleaning if you do so.
