Err, 😂 that steak was, beef fillet and as I was a butcher for 45 years, really if you can't make that tender, give up 😢, and order a takeaway 😂😂❤ X

Melbourne, Australia reporting in. Looks good man, I'd only change 3 things. Forget balsamic use oyster sauce, add cornstarch with the baking soda and change out the olive oil for rice bran or peanut oil. Cheers! 👍

Pretty sure this would only tenderize a thin outside layer of the meat which is why they usually thinly slice meat.

I like how he says it takes five minutes then 15 seconds later he says cover and let sit for 30 minutes. That’s when I stop watching.

5 minutes turned into 30 minutes in the bowl and then 10 minutes of browning and another 10 minutes of cook time in the sauce for 50 minutes of tenderizing. People have to do better with these titles. The recipe looks tasty and all and I know the technique works to tenderize, but it is definitely not 5 minutes!

Very tasty, but how does this tenderize the meat? It seems like how you normally prepare meat to be used.

From what I’ve heard… the baking soda is what makes it so tender. I’ve seen recipes for pork that tell you to soak the pork in a bowl of water with baking soda to tenderize it.

@@MambaP Thanks for info. I grew up adding baking soda like that but thought it was for flavor. Been doing it like mom taught me for 50 years now and never thought about it.

It’s called “velveting” and most Asian cultures have been using this method for centuries. Works with most meats and fowl. Be sure to thoroughly rinse, and DON’T leave it longer! It’s partially “digests” the meat. Hope this helps!

@marylockwood4400 Well okay Mary Lockwood. You have a very American name. Is that the name you were born with? Or did you change it after you moved here? I'm only asking because it confuses me. I would never have thought that you were Chinese. But even still you have no idea what sauces are in everyone's kitchen. Chinese or American.
