Chinese student enrollment surges at University of Iowa

Is there Asian discrimination there? I am a Korean and want to go to Iowa University, but I do not want to go to University of Iowa if there has discrimination to Asian.

An Lee Hi there! I'm about to graduate from the University of Iowa. From my native standpoint, I don't feel like there's discrimination against Asians. I will say there are some feelings of resentment towards the Chinese students which come from extravagant displays of wealth. It has nothing to do with the fact that they're Asian, because people tend to feel anger and jealousy towards any group that has more than they do, whether they're from China or the Chicago suburbs. Most American college students are on extremely limited budgets, so it's difficult to see an Asian student drive past you in their Ferrari/Maserati/etc. when you don't have enough money to buy groceries. So my advice is: please come to Iowa, but if you're going to buy a car (which is an essential in this area), please don't buy a Lamborghini. There's nothing wrong with driving a Volvo or a Honda!

Thank you for your comment! Yeah, I know what you mean.. I surviving with extremely limited budget for study in the US, but some abroad students are buy whatever they want, and it seemed immature acts for me.

Lynnsey Knockel not all students from China cone from wealthy families. There are plenty of poor Chinese students at university of Washington

Make international students live in dorms, mixed with an American roommate. THAT will get them to mingle and not just group together with others from the same country.
