Update: I've ridden this for about 2 months now and am not as big of a fan as I used to be. When real low on the bike in the aero position (back horizontal), the seat post bends the front of the seat upward enough for it to cause discomfort in the sensitive areas. You may have to point the seat downward a little to compensate for this difference when the suspension activates.

@@edgarsolorio9387 Yes, it's better than nothing, but point the seat slightly down when you're not on the bike if you like. Also if it does break on a ride be prepared to take it off and ride the bike without it.

I weigh around 80kg and I broke one while on a long trip, at the clamp point just under the bend, one side only. I refitted it just using the non-broken top half and continued without it breaking again. My main reason for using it was to have a cheap seat setback device, as I've got long legs for my height, so I was ok with losing the springiness. I've bought a second one, accepting that that too might break as it's probably mediocre quality steel tempering in the manufacture. Re a comment below, mine worked loose too, but I remedied it easily using threadlock.

Thanks for the comment of your experience. It has been a year now and mine hasn't slipped one bit after tightening and hasn't broken. But there's minimal flex on the spring/metal with the zip ties and how far forward I keep the seat (less torque on spring, less movement). I still haven't found a replacement like the Thudbuster seatpost but made universally like this one to fit proprietary seatposts.

I would add a rubber "block" under it so it can help soften the stress on the suspension. Maybe that may help with the longevity.

@@Cain-x That's a great thought, I don't know how I'd secure it, maybe with zip ties? I'd like something like the thudbuster suspension with elastomers but have mounts capable of working with proprietary seatpost. I haven't found anything like that yet.

If you add this Chinese suspension to a suspension post would that be even smoother? I'm aiming for minimum impact as I have degenerative disc disease and just bought my first full suspension bike 2nd hand, and trying to customise it. Many thanks

I'm sorry to hear about the challenges you face. It's possible that it could smooth the ride a little more but I haven't tried it. I have a full suspension 29er and no suspension seatpost on it. Could you demo a full suspension recumbent bike/trike? Maybe the recumbent position could help as an alternative.

@@pedalpowercycling thanks brouch appreciated. The recumbent position is better ergonomically however even so I will limit my riding to essential trips only. I'll be getting a 2nd hand tall stem and comfort handlebars. I've just ordered the Chinese suspension for £17 (insane) and a suspension seat post £18. I'll let you know how it goes. I'll test them together on a hard tail bike, and a full suspension bike. This way I'll be able to rate the suspension effectiveness of each variable, and then together. Fatter tyres next maybe! @@pedalpowercycling OK bro so I've tested the set up, and having triple suspension is best. It adds to the seat height alot and I'm at my toe limit so this is a factor to consider. So it's a win. What I need next are fat tyres for sure at medium to soft pressure to absorb everything at the outset. I'm still working on the long stem and comfort bars. I'm getting there slowly. Be safe x

@@Spinozin I have back problems too. I'm using a Thudbuster but it's not enough so thinking of adding this chinese suspension piece too. What's the third piece you've added? Any other mods to help with back pain?

Lots & lots of "new" technology, be it this or complex seat posts. One day someone's going to think of making saddles with springs. Oh wait.... Brooks have been doing that in various different styles & widths since around 1866.

The Cane Creek Thudbuster ST and LT are better. But all telescopic ones that I'm aware of require round seatposts. Mine is proprietary d shaped so I need something like this for this bike. I unboxed and showed a few other seat posts too on my channel.

They got dedicated Chinese spring loaded adjustable seat posts instead of this spring steel style add on

Yes they do, but they're round and my BMC utilizes a proprietary seatpost so I can't use round ones unfortunately. I could use suspension seats.

It's better now that it's pointed a little downward to start. Then the weight of you sitting on it could make the seat more horizontal. The little suspension it provides is better than no suspension.

DO NOT BUY THIS. The fact you have to attach cable ties to stop it from slipping shows how dangerous it is. The plates that attach it to the saddle are made from aluminium and become loose in warm weather within minutes so that it will come off and you will too. Mine fell apart in traffic, I was going slow at the time, had I been at speed I would, most likely, not be here writing this. DO NOT BUY THIS.

Yes there is definitely a risk of breaking and having the clamp slip. The cable ties are to prevent the spring from fully retracting, hopefully prolonging the life of the spring. I haven't broken mine, it still works as of this posting and no slipping.

If you have a proprietary seat post, there aren't too many options if you want a little suspension. However if you have a round universal seat post like a 27.2mm round one, I'd definitely get a suspension seat post instead.
