"We're having a bear of a time," he says of the ongoing project to pull the seat posts from a slew of bikes brought in with salt water corrosion from Hurricane Sandy. The suspension post he shows us has an allen key turnable inner core that can be unscrewed after the post has been sawed off the bike. SonofA's idea is to get a Sawzall in there to blast out the core, which also includes springs and another allen key part that holds the suspension part on the shaft. I've just replaced mine with a used one,i found in my parts "depot" in the storage locker but not only i wasted an hour to use a cutter blade to remove the bolt with a thread locker because the thread in the post was gone and used a bolt and nut to tighten the seat but the post is stuck and feels like a regular iron pipe post.I'll have to fuck around with it again one of these days if it doesn't get lose from all the road-caused bumping which by the way fixes all the stuck handlebar posts after you unscrew the bolt a bit,you just have to carry an allan key to tighten the bolt after it comes lose somewhere on the road.

I have a HeyBike Mars electric bike, and the folding seat is mounted on a post as this. I don't know if shortening it will help me or not, but it is complex enough that I don't want to attempt it for myself. Do they even make shorter assemblies with the folding seat on them? My seat folds so that I can remove the battery just behind it. A shorter normal seat post would reduce the height, but would also lose the shock absorption, I guess. Interesting as to how many parts are involved in that setup. Thanks for the video being shared.

My new suspension seat post turns slightly to the right and left.The post is tight in the frame. The stem turns.Can I tighten the large knurled nut below the rubber collar?Thanks

Thanks for the vid. So you saying that if you disassemble it's hard to get it working again? I've got the case of forced in seatpost and cut innershaft, so I was thinking of getting the same model and try to replace it but I cannot screw it back without access to the bottom right? i mean in most models

If you drilled a hole through the top of the seat post and inserted a rod or a bolt you would then have a rod or a bolt sticking horizontally through the top of the seat post! Just thought I could be helpful. :-)

I would love to swap out the stock spring with something more forgiving... a lower compression rate. I fluctuate between 170-200lbs., the spring in my current post sucks, appears to be in the range of 225-250, barely budges on BIG bumps. And it's not stuck nor is the vertical frame post at that great of an angle... 10 degrees at most, so side wall friction is not that great. May have to take it up to ACE or flip through a Grainger catalog...?

Ye olde dumb question . . . What does the collar screw do? Allow it to compress or not? Just looking for confirmation. My new bike has this on it. Found the manufacture's PDF . . . still did not confirm it. Thanks.

The collar nut keeps the compression unit from being pulled out of thee post

i would have stuck a stem for a threaded fork into the seat post and tighten it then install a long bar on the stem and have one person hold the bike and two people turn the stem from each side

Why push the Bottom Cap out when you can screw it out, the only thing you need is a long allen key!!! You can see by 2 Minutes and 19 sec when the cap came out. The allen key would also fit from the other side. Greetings from Germany
