Yes -- the Privateer is a great presence at an air show, just as it was when it was a firefighting air tanker. Hey, thanks for watching and commenting.

And thank you for watching and commenting. Perhaps we'll have more aviation and rail videos on the Airailimages Channel that will be of interest to you as well.

Good to see so much of the Mitchell. I came close as a comm specialist/radio operator for ground control of a B-25 target tow plane in the mid '50s at the Irwin AAA training range. I really enjoyed chatting with the pilot and instructing him when to come on range and when to go home (George Air Base). One day he dropped a target intact for me - I picked it up off the ground in front of the firing line. :)

Too often taken for granted but a very big THANK YOU to the hardworking folks who keep these beauties flying, restorers, maintenance mechanics and pilots. No doubt thousands of volunteer hours go into this. So much appreciated by us air buffs fortunate enough to witness them. If there is a show one should attend each year this one is it by all means. And to the poster of this video a million thanks for letting us enjoy the roar of the engines instead of obscuring them with some music. Gosh, is that Jug passing by now a beauty or what? Note ro self for 2019: add Chino to bucket list.

Bernard Anderson That is not an A-26. I know which plane you are talking about and I don’t even know what it is. It looks like a cross between a B-24 and. B-26 /A-26. The A-26 is a twin engine. I don’t recall ever seeing this bomber before but would like to know what it is. Very interesting.

Another great video of this wonderful event! The Privateer is awesome. Have read there are exist two other airworthy of them (59882, Bob J. Hawkins in Greybull, Wyoming and 66302 - P4Y-2 LLC in Phoenix, Arizona. Is that true?

I thought the flights of Strega and Voodoo were the best of the show. They showed how fast these planes can fly if the pilots want to push them.
@MichaelVanHeemst6 жыл бұрын
2Phast4Rocket and spend hundreds of thousands modifying them
@jorgsobota22286 жыл бұрын
They were not nearly as fast as they could, Voodoo has not even a racing engine anymore. Strega was most likely powered by the ferry engine - fast enough for an air show. Tragic end of an era...
@mattinsley17215 жыл бұрын
Thankfully Voodoo is now a permanent part of the collection at P.O.F. There is a great film out there of Steve Jr. and the whole team trying to break the record for fastest piston engine aircraft. It is amazing to see the dedication and work that went into that effort. She has earned her place in retirement at the museum. Much respect to the people who made the effort. We are lucky to get to see here taking up a more limited role as an ambassador for aviation now. I can hardly wait for the 2019 show.

PB4Y-2 Privateer; evolved out of the B-24. This one has been modified a couple of times after the war. First, with the big Plexiglas nose cap and side windows to be used for patrols by the U.S. Coast Guard. Then, as a civilian firefighting air tanker, the engines were replaced with the same type as used by the B-25.
@afterburner28696 жыл бұрын
airailimages Thanks for the information. That explains the large observation windows in the fuselage like the PBY Catalina.
