Chinon CS - My first SLR. I still have it. (Came from the very small Dixons in Hounslow High St). Absolutely bombproof camera. Love it. Mine has 55mm f1.8 and I use it to this day. There was a CX too with a few more bells and whistles.

My father bought a M-1 (pretty much same camera) new back in the 70s. I’ve been shooting on it for over a decade or so and I love it. So Mechanical. Just upgraded to a Minolta XD5 which feels so different!

Hi Matt, I was just helping someone with the description of another export model of the Chinon CX, on the biggest German classifieds platform and thought I'd see if there was a decent video on the original or the export model. That's how I ended up here. Incidentally, the export model was the Revueflex 2000 CL, which was sold by Foto Quelle in Germany and Europe. Somehow I'm accumulating more and more export models of the original Chinon cameras. So far I have a Revue SC3 (Chinon CM-4s), a Universa Compact SEL 35 (Chinon 35 EE) and in the next few weeks I'll also be getting the Revueflex 3000 SM (Chinon CX II), the successor model in black. Incidentally, I decided in favour of the export model of the Chinon CX II and not the Chinon CX, because on the Chinon CX II the shutter release lever is no longer next to the lens mount, but has been integrated into the shutter release button and there is a locking switch for the shutter release button. In any case, I now at least know which video I can forward if my written explanations need visual support. Greetings from Germany Lutz

Just got a Chinon SLR. It’s clean, smooth and beautiful. Solid like kryptonite. Came with a Chinon 40-105 mm 3.5 macro. No batteries required. $27 from Goodwill auction. Now to test it out.

My first proper camera was a new Olympus OM10 around 1980. F1.8 50mm lens and fitted a manual adapter. I got some cracking results from it and still own it today. I also have my fathers Werra camera from the early 1960s I think. He made a hot shoe metal bracket for it and mounted a range finder on it. Then used a handheld light meter with it. I need to try a roll of film through it sometime soon… 😅

Great looking camera! My first serious camera was a Canon A1 w/ 50mm lens I bought from a friend - complete with the original 1980 Olympic Winter Games lens cap, no less. Still using it to this day.

My first proper camera I learned on was a Minolta X300. Not sure there was ever much love for them but I liked it and still have it. I still use some of the lenses with adapters on my Canon DSLR. it was also a good camera to learn on. Christmas 1998 I think. I used it for 9 years until I got the Canon.

Great camera. I remember they sold various Chinon models over here as "Revueflex" and I think there was even an Alpa branded one ... after Alpa gave up their own camera production which was extremely innovative in the 1940s and 1950s but later could not keep up with the Japanese brands anymore. Personally I very much love the Spotmatics cause they are such a legend and also a beautiful, clean design. But yes there are so many other great M42 bodies out there ...!

You werree loukky. I 'ad too learn on a Zenith 'e'. It didn't have auto aperture, so you had to open up to 1.8, focus, then stop back down to the aperture you wanted, having read it off the lumix hand held light meter (Zenith didn't have a meter built in either). Not many pictures came out as you wanted in the early days of the 1970's! Thanks for showing your manual heritage. From that era I just have my Olympus trip, an XA2 and a minox, all are compacts unfortunately.

Me too. Bought second hand TTL from a camera shop in Antwerp in 1990. A beautiful thing in a hard leather case but weighted about 5kg. Fantastic pictures though.

Can anyone in US recommend a battery for this camera ?

Theres an adapter shaped like a brass ring that allows you to use a newer and smaller size battery, which I have but dont remember the make, think it was ebay or amazon

I did things the wrong way round. After a couple of obscure 35mm viewfinder cameras I had a 1933 Leica II with Summar lens but couldn't live with the poky, dim viewfinder so bought a Leica brightline finder but was then plagued with parallax errors. So I traded it in 1962 for a new Pentax S3. Very superior and I've stuck with Pentax ever since. No regrets!
@mattrichardsonsclickbait4 жыл бұрын
Not many trade down from a Leica, or would admit it wasnt right!
@glynjones25404 жыл бұрын
Click Bait What do you mean "trade down"?! I must admit that, at the time, I wondered about a low-mileage M3 for the same money but, overall, no regrets. Those early Pentaxes were beautifully made.

haha, well as Leica folks will always say, they are the ultimate and best camera of all so anything else is anything less (he says as a Nikon user..)

My first SLR was a Chinon bought from a classmate who in his turn bought it second hand. This was 1984 or so. I really hate the modern digital cameras, they are old one week after you left the shop. A Nikon F2 was the shit in the days!

Don't you mean the CX was a knockoff of a Pentax Spotmatic? Those had M42 mount and stop down metering. Not a K1000, which had a K-mount, no self timer, no double exposure, and a meter that was always active unless the lens cap was on.
@h.vanhalm11692 жыл бұрын
The Chinon CM doesn't exist. I think you mean the Chinon M-1 (1972)
@anaraluca11812 жыл бұрын
Why should that be a knock off of the Pentax or the camera of any other producer?
