LSU took our 3rd string QB (Joe Burrow) and won the Natty. John Cooper took our 3rd string QB and won the Rose Bowl…..Joe Germaine was the 1st substitute Quarterback (perhaps any substitute at any position) to win the games MVP. Our Buckeyes beat previously unbeaten Arizona State => but we ended up ranked No 2.

@@ChrisMo16 Actually, when Cardale Jones was FORCED into service, he had almost 2 complete years in the same system with the majority of the same players and coaches. When Joe Burrow slid down to LSU => he took over a team he had very little experience with (since he had played QB for OSU in our Spring Game that season). Joe took an unranked LSU team and beat 4 Top Ten Teams and finished No 6 in the country. It was Joe’s 1st season, his OC’s 1st season and the HC’s 2nd Season……and Joe hadn’t even played in their Spring game. The next season, still with less time in their system than Cardale Jones had at Ohio State…..Joe won everything, every game, every award, and was the NFL’s No 1 pick….. and he did it with a new OC too ! Clearly, both Cardale Jones and Joe Burrow’s stories are impressive (as was/is Joe Germaine’s) ==> but to go elsewhere and win everything (Burrow was the FBS POY and of the Championship Game MVP and the Heisman winner and the NFL’s No 1 pick => it’s easy to see we have a clear winner and his name is Joe Burrow. Cardale was NONE of those things (0-4). You can still watch Burrow play on Sunday if you want/wish to !!!

I loved Chip Kelly in Oregon. Was sad to see him go. However, he hasn’t had success since leaving. UCLA didn’t have any offense, save one year. I think Ohio State’s offense is up in the air right now until Kelly proves himself again. Maybe now that he’s a coordinator and can concentrate on one side of the ball, he’ll have success again.

What does that have to do with this year? He had a great team around 10 years ago with Oregon, there offense was one of the best during that time. He did go about .500 at Ucla but his team got better in the last 2 or 3 years of his tenure. His 2022 offense was producing a top 500 plus yards per game and had several players drafted. So you could easily argue that with great talent he can shine. Plus he can just focus on the offense only and not head coaching duties. Its also I believe what coach Day needed, take some of the load off and not try to do everything. Some of the best college coaches like Saban and others know how to spread the resposibilty.

It helps when your 3rd string QB has a better skill set than your No 1 & 2 quarterbacks => and it pays to have an OC who can make great calls and adjustments on the fly. Thanks Cardale !! @@Dabs__ Perhaps a LT plan is more what they envisioned => but it certainly doesn’t mean the young QB’s will remain patient. The Portal and NIL have forced HC’s to adopt a different paradigm. But their new approach may still need some refinement…. I personally like that Coaches can’t stockpile and must be willing to discuss their thought and plans and vision => and that openness in communication still may not be enough……

Devin Brown had 2 years of open competition and couldn’t win the starting QB-1 job either year. And in every ACTUAL GAME he played in, managed to get injured and was never a viable threat. I haven’t seen enough of Sayin or Nolan to really say……but McCord had 1 actual start his TRUE freshman year and DELIVERED. Which leaves Howard => who’s a 5th year Senior and he’s never put up McCord numbers and couldn’t keep his own starting job…. …,..so in any comparison so far => 12-1 Kyle McCord => who played with perhaps the worst Oline I’ve seen at Ohio State => easily outshines any of your total BS comment so far…..
