Saban dealt with this constantly thru his tenure at Alabama. It is no big leap that your OC goes to the NFL, that is big money big exposure. I think the bigger thing is the in conference rival taking the DC. At least with Chip you don't have to worry about facing him next year. Ohio St will make some good decisions on coaches I think, and this is coming from a South Carolina fan, It's a big hit to loose both but ya'll have the pull to bring in really good leaders

As I recall, when Ryan Day hired Chip Kelly to take over the OC job, he was being recognized as moving the Head Coaching job to more of a CEO position. Now it's time to be a CEO, and I think he'll find good people. Your point about contacting head coaches is an interesting one. I was fantasizing he'd grab Venables from Oklahoma. That won't happen, but there are good people out there. He'll find them.

worst case scenario he can call plays, he took Clemson and UGAs defense to the woodshed in the playoffs. play calling isnt that important compared to player development and scheme implementation

Saban and the SEC cycled through many more players than other programs. It guaranteed he had fewer holes in his line up. Those days are over. It's going to take a different recipe for continued success. If anyone can do it, its Ohio State.

Why would you want to take chances all the time when you have arguably the best D in all of college football? UM did the same thing last year, yes it drove me nuts at times being a UM fan, but when a coordinator knows their counter parts will do their respected jobs, then they want to complement each other, Scoring every 2 secs or going 3 and out with no time off the clock will always overload the defense.

Hot take: chip kelly only joined Ryan day to take his job if things did not plan out well for this year. Fortunately they won the national championships. Ryan day job is secured despite the relationship he figured he probably reached his ceiling in terms of availability in good coaching jobs at the college level. 6:02 ........ As a Nebraska fan we literally went through this, however it was not quite to the level Josh was describing. Dana holgorsen wasn't a G5 coach when Nebraska picked him up, but he had been the three years prior, and when he got here he just said "I just want to coach offense " The sport used to be that a G5 coach would work his way up to the p5 and that's how he would get his big opportunity. That's not going to be how it is anymore, because people are constantly pillaging the G5 for players, those G5 coaches are going to want to hop ship to the p5 faster, even if it is just a coordinator job.

Urban Myers was totally excited about the possibility of coaching Braxton Miller. I'm not sure he would have come to Ohio State if Braxton wasn't there. Now, Ohio State has two of the most exciting young football players on the roster. What OC wouldn't want to coach Jeremiah Smith along with Tate, Innus, Grahmn and some incoming five star wide receivers. A couple stud TEs as well as young powerful RBs. Proven guard center guard OL and the attraction of the Buckeye program to attract talented talented tackles. What DC wouldn't want to coach Calib Downs, Sonny Styles and a slew of defensive talent. The 2025 team is loaded with real good talent. What potential OC or DC wouldn't want to play with those toys as well as coach with a brilliant young head coach that understands the big picture. The Buckeyes will be just fine.

@ They lose less than Michigan did, that’s for sure. Both player-wise and with coaching staff. They very well could be ok-ish. Still, wouldn’t be surprised to see a bigger drop off than some might expect. OSU was dominant last season. They won’t be the same team in 2025. Saving grace is OSU has recruited better than Michigan. That will help to keep them on track more. Plus, like I said, they do keep more of their staff than Michigan did. The challenge won’t be attracting a talented coordinator. It will be convincing the guy that Ryan won’t be lurking over his back, breathing down his neck, and won’t throw him under the bus when Ohio State has a very natural and predicable fall off in productivity this coming season. Day is very insecure and, truth be told, he’s not an elite head coach. His sweet spot was as OC and primary play caller; he should have stuck with that. The word that best describes his tenure at OSU is “Underachiever.” I know the Buckeye mouthbreather battalion will spit out their corn nuts and start citing his record to me, just 60 days, incidentally, after the Days had to hire armed security to protect themselves from these same enlightened fans, but the real issue is not the record per se, but how many other coaches could have equaled or surpassed that record given the same resources. The truth is that number is greater than the number of top 5 wins Ryan has, even after this season, where the entire system was retooled to make it possible for him, a coach who perennially craps the bed during the regular season, to compete in and even host a game in the post season despite finishing 4th in his conference. College football has taken a step backward and is destroying what made it great, i.e., rivalries and regular season record. In a few years, unless changes are made, it will be nothing more than a semi-pro league. Can anyone tell me off the top of your head who the top rated passer was in the UFL last season? Yeah, didn’t think so.

Ohio state focused on building a $20 million roster rather than keeping their coaches lol

Sometimes money alone isn’t going to keep people. Whether it be they want to be closer to their home town, or prove themselves elsewhere at a new level ex Kelly with NFL, or just interpersonal conflicts at the current place. Money won’t always keep people on your team and if that’s all that is keeping them. It also may not be the best they stay haha.

yeah. they focused on winning a Natty. If only they sucked, then they would have had to fire all of those coaches. Instead they won, and other people wanted their coaches. Ohio State really screwed up.

OSU is in a bad spot right now. Could they have a season much like Michigan after their Natty a year ago?
@zazuch
@zazuch 6 күн бұрын
Just no haha. OSU hasn’t had a 5 loss season since 2011 when fickell was interim head coach with his hands tied behind his back with sanctions from tattoogate. Before that it was 2001. Day was OC before chip kelly and before this year only had 1 regular season loss. So no it’s doubtful they will hit the brakes and skid to a 5 loss season like Michigan did haha.

only without losing their head coach, or a black cloud of a cheating scandal overhead. And most likely, with a lot more talent than Michigan had on the roster.

a Natty every 10 years is pretty good. I am 71 years old and in my lifetime Michigan has won exactly 2, and the last two came 26 years apart. OSU has won 3 since the turn of the century.
