Chip Kelly was an "exciting" hire 😂 we don't need exciting we need an effective offense and that's what the real Chip will provide

I love that we got the guy who prepped the #1 overall drafted QB. He's not coming in to an empty cabinet either. We had WRs wide open all over the field, but a QB who couldn't find any of them. As a former QB I was pulling my hair out all season, yelling at the TV, "WhAt ArE yOU WaITiNg FOR!!!"

I actually think this IS a home run hire. Not sure why people are sleeping on this guy and marginalizing him. He sounds like the best candidate available. Bro literally built Drake Maye and a top 7 offense, and did it in the ACC which, while it's not the Big Ten or SEC, is still an impressive feat for a team like North Carolina. Idk, this is a very very good hire, imo.

The reason ppl are not that excited for him is we already have balance n a great run game. We're missing an elite passing game. N when I look....I just don't see that with him. I see a very similar passing game as kirk. I'd guess this is what most see. Doesn't mean it won't work....but it has to or this will become the reason.. sux but true. N I do hope I'm wrong about him....time will tell
@machineunit6 күн бұрын
@benbred79 the best offenses are balanced. Kirk Campbell wasn't unsuccessful because he was balanced. He was unsuccessful because he didn't have a QB or WRs, and his play calls were not conducive to the talent he had available. This guy may run a similar offense, but what I see is THE WAY he runs that offense and THE WAY that he knows how to tailor it to his talent. That's what I think people might be sleeping on.

Had Tez at Troy too. He’s been around some guys. Wasn’t my first choice either, but like what he’s done. I loved the comment ( / speculation) about Hampton too, that’d be huge!

Drake maye was already Drake maye before Lindsey arrived. The main reason he was hired is because he is excellent at developing offenses around the talent and not the other way around. He can run an air raid type pass game without losing the physicality up front. He is known for dynamic pro style with physical run game. We will have to see how it works out

Yards per game is nice, but better stats to focus on include 3rd down conversion percentage, first down offense, scoring drive percentage, red zone offense, and points per game. You can get all the yards in the world, but if you can’t hold the ball, sustain drives, and put up points, it’s all for not.
@timdepaulis24874 күн бұрын
Chip is an excellent hire. He runs balance offenses. He can run multiple schemes to fit the personnel. He has helped a lot of QBs get to the NFL Stidham, Daniels, Maye. While those qbs were NFL players he still had a very good run game with them. This might not be a A+ hire but at the very least it’s a A- hire.

Exactly. This guys is a "we're happy to be ok" hire, not "we are competing for the national championship every year" hire. Michigan is a blue blood, on the VERY short list of truly great universities, and should not be happy with just "ok".

Well, we also don't want to get saddled with false humility as well. We want to make sure the hire fits and works. I've heard stuff that works and I've heard stuff that brings question marks... As a guy that's played the game, I guess we just gotta see what he brings to the table with Michigan, he's gonna have to be able to work with the spread, RPO set up, using multiple backs and multiple tight ends... for that real smash mouth element like Michigan did last year - apparently he has some bona fides that shows he can do that. I guess we'll just have to see...
@NightwingGR17 күн бұрын
Michigan should not be settling for an "OK" offense. The great teams, Georgia, Alabama(historically), Michigan last year, and yes, Ohio State...have ELITE offenses. This screams "we're happy to be ok" in perpetuity, and "happy to occasionally make the playoffs"..not "playing for the national championship every year", which is what Michigan SHOULD be doing.

Exactly! They keep saying "we could be a 10 win team" and "his offense might even get us to the playoffs"....they are sounding like Wisconsin or Indiana!
