Episode 6 of Dark matter has Amanda and Jason spiraling into the madness of things being just a little bit off, lives that could have been, and unknowingly shut out of their world, in a “whoa whoa whoa, wait a minute” cliffhanger ending.
I’m getting into all of that and more, so grab your favorite ice cream, slap that subscribe button, as we get into Dark Matter episode 6
I gotta start right at the ending, with the absolute heartbreaking betrayal of Ryan. Jason 2, like what the heck man? Let’s go back a bit, Detective Daniela, hot on Jason 2’s case, recruits Ryan into the mix once she discovers the hidden storage unit and empty ampoules of Lavender Fairy. Since Ryan works in this realm, Daniela asks him to sequence the vials, confronting Jason 2 with the fact that he developed the exact same formula that Ryan had been trying to create.
It’s weird to think about, but if Jason 2 never gummed up everything, theoretically does that mean the original Jason and Ryan work together, form the compound, and the creation of the box is just the natural progression? This would happen no matter what? Time is a circle.
Meaning that there may be waaaaayyyy more than the number of Jason’s, Amanda’s, Leighton’s, and whoever else traveling the same multiversal path than we think? Anyway, Jason2 schmoozes Ryan’s concerns, showing him the box, how superposition works, and an exciting futuristic world full of hope and dreams, where Jason 2 unfortunately maroons his universe’s Ryan. Now throughout this, there are a couple of small info nuggets about the box, claiming it’s a 5 dimensional square, being width, height, and length, the components of our 3D world, with the added elements of space and time. Along with the corridor not being a physical hallway, but rather all of the boxes in the possible multiverses lined against one another.
These final 10 minutes are this hopeful ball of light, that is slowly dimmed into complete darkness, and you feel the tension, you see where this is going, and I thought it was so effectively done, in both sequence and emotional weight. It’s really like that astronaut meme in motion, and I’m curious how this is going to ripple.

Ryan betrayed Daniela due to his greed, instead of telling her the vial was similar to compound and that’s what she found, he went to Jason 2 out of greed and it ended up costing him.

The one difference between Blair’s travels and Jason’s is he has a partner for now, where as she had to deal with the insanity by herself. Although, I wonder if them traveling as a pair somehow distracts Jason from finding the right universe. He seems to be catching feelings and I think they will smash before the end of the season. I also agree with you on the sledgehammer theory, I was thinking the same.

Jason 2 had no problem traveling in a pair. I wonder if both Jasons will end up in their original positions or if they will settle into their new lives after their ultimate face-off. The Ryan scene was very tense, and the possibility of murder stuck in my mind. This guy might also come after Jason 2.

First off, thanks for the Shout-Out at the beginning of this review. You really covered a lot, which is why I like your site so much--but it's difficult to figure out where to jump-in. So... 1-This episode was really about the mental & emotional journeys of the characters--and less about the "plot" or story narrative. The toll on Jason1 and Amanda1 is really painful to watch--especially with Amanda being emotionally rejected by Jason1, just like she was by EvilJason in their world. Her visit to HER "road not taken," of husband & child, suggests that she's realizing that in the road she DID take, she may never be happy. 2-Staying with the emotional toll: Jason1 and Jason2, in their current separate worlds, may indeed be reverting to their "core" or "basic" self. Which is Dark. Which is obsessive (Jason1 rejecting/hurting Amanda's romantic overture). While at the same time EvilJason continues to have no remorse for the things that he does to others: playing with ShrinkAmanda in Jason1's world; deciding what's best for Daniela; and, stranding Ryan in another world. No Remorse. 3-Storyline wise, I wonder WHY haven't Jason1 and Amanda addressed the problem of the shrinking drug supply by getting it duplicated in one of their universes...so they have an endless supply. It shouldn't be too hard. That would solve one of their major problems--being stranded. But, not the mental/emotional problem that was the theme of episode 6. Remember: Jason2 has taken "over 100" trips--so he must have found a way to duplicate the drug. And, Jason1 has the same intellect, and therefore should also be able to do the same. 4-Daniela and Jason2 are now at a cross-roads. With her having confided in Ryan & given him a sample of the drug--just before Ryan goes missing; it's obvious she's going to see Jason2 as either Ryan's murderer, or responsible for his disappearance. This is where I think Max will come in. 5-My theory is: Jason2 will tell Daniela "most" of the truth; but, as always, he will "justify it" as being for the Greater Good. In this case, he'll tell her that he IS a different version of her Jason, and has created the box so that he can take her & Charley to a new universe where they can be together with Max. He may even take Daniela & Charley on a quick trip to "Max World." IMO, this will be very seductive for Daniela & Charley; and could led to a bittersweet ending with Jason1 & Amanda allowing Jason2 to run off with Daniela & Charley...leaving Jason1 and Amanda to pursue a New Path as romantic partners, and "pathfinders" for other multi-universe travelers like the two Leighton's, the two volunteers who disappeared, Blair, and maybe Ryan. That's my cray-cray theories and suggested ending. Three more episodes, to see how close I am. 😀

I liked the dynamic between Ryan 1 and Jason 2. Its like the Spiderman meme. Jason 2 knows Ryan is basically him from his world right before he made his break through. Remember in Jason 2's world, HE actually won the Pavia Award, like Ryan won in this world. Ryan 1 slowly puts the pieces together from the bar all the way up until Jason 2 takes him to the new world. But by the time he connects all the dots it's too late. Ryan says, "...You're not the Jason i know...are you?" He quickly tries to save himself by saying, "Wait, I won't be a problem for you"... I think Jason 2's plan now that he has money, and has gotten rid of the only two people that knew about the box, and has covered up the box; is to just focus on his family and continue to try and get it right. But Daniella is going to be problem moving forward.

My theory #2 is that Danelia will go to the police about missing Ryan. Then that same lady detective will investigate. And in the finale Jason 1 will have to try and break back into his box before being charged with the murder of Ryan as Jason 2's twin.

With the disappearance of both Leighton and Ryan in the main universe I think Jason becomes a suspect in their murders after no body’s are found. Just a thought and possibility.

Navigation is the problem . You don't choose where you go but your subconscious. You have to ve congruent with your intention and motive. Let's say you wanna eat a Hot Dog . You think and know what a Hot Dog is right ? But can you break down the taste ? Can you make the sausage and the condiment? ? Samething here if you are in the state of superposition and you have every possibility now you're faced with your subconsciousness . Every doubt will result in a diffrent possibility and a world .

I just posted comments about the need for Jason1 and Amanda to stop at a universe--and find someone (Ryan, the Dark Web) to duplicate the drug ampoules. They could even get the elements identified for them, so WHERE-EVER they go, they can have a chemist created what they need. Again: most likely it will be an underground or Dark Web chemist. No legit chemist will do it.

It is supposed to be a limited series, so there's only supposed to be 9 episodes and that's it, so presumably they won't end it on a lingering cliff hanger and will wrap up the story nicely. I can maybe see it doing well enough that they try another season, but it's based on one book... They'd need a team of writers to continue, which is possible. I have no problem with more sci-fi. Every show has a slow episode or two, but this isn't Fast and the Furious, it's character-driven story-telling. This was focus on the hopelessness of the situation and dwindling supplies, Jason2 figuring out that you can't force it and screwing up more trying to.

He can't destroy or remove the box from that position else another box could appear at the same position by the corridor traveller. And the box opens up from inside but how would they know this one is their right universe, maybe they think they collapse and clipped into a building like they collapsed below ground in episode 3, and they will close the door ignoring this universe.

Money!!! How are they paying for food and hotels??? They should have shown them dining and ditching to fill in that plot hole. Brilliant series nonetheless and with many of us in the "real" experiencing the Mandela Effect, I think that black cube is a nod to D-Wave quantum computers and the blending of reality fragments from the infinite multiverse here in OUR timeline. In a true INFINITE multiverse, there can be no such thing as fiction, therefore Jason exists and somewhere in some reality Joel Edgerton is ACTUALLY Jason. This is the craziness that pondering the ramifications takes you to.

I think it's worth remembering that Ryan knows how to make the compound that allows someone to travel, and he knows where the box is. He is currently in a presumed perfect world, so if he wanted to he should be able to make more ampoules he could use the box (assuming he can get in from the outside).

It’s hilarious that Jason2 crossed dimensions in search of his true love and a potentially cakewalk marriage only to arrive and totally mess things up and probably end up getting a divorce. Amanda1 is trying to make Jason2 aware of the universal constant: it don’t matter what universe you’re from, you still gotta wrk at your marriage if you want it to work. Jason2 wants all the beauty and fun of “the baby” w/out any of the labor pains. Jason2 also reminds you of Peter Quill from GOG vol 3. Peter excepts Gamora2 to be the “love of his life”. But Gamora2 (from another dimension) has needs and expectations that are ALL OF OWN.

After getting the weird sound cue in episode 6 but cutting to Jason and Amanda again/still it got me thinking (also Leighton dancing around). So Jason and Amanda saw a version of a Jason and Amanda getting shot trying to leave. That means that there is an infinite amount of Jason and Amanda's that also got away. I think we are either watching a few Jason and Amanda's trying to get back or that there will be a bunch of them that try to come back that we find out about. Like maybe one of them came to the world with the blonde black lady who was trying to work out the killer wasp issue. She gave them a field notebook but we haven't seen it since. Maybe sometimes we are just watching a random Amanda and Jason. But then wouldn't there be many Jason Two's that are with their new wife n life. IDK.

There were first 33 ampoules, an odd number. Then, in the next screen, there were 20, an even number. Yeah we are watching different Jason and Amandas. I'm 95% sure now. Whoop whoop we worked it out. So we will see one Jason (Amanda IDK what) get back to his wife but then there will be the ones who didn't. But IDK is there multiple wives for them to go back to? Is there multiple boxes from other slightly different dimensions. I guess that's not the story so we will see the lucky one get back but are probably watching a bunch that won't if there's only one. That's the big Westworld twist drop.

Oh crap we are watching different Jason and Amandas all the time. Field notebook not getting read, watching one couple not getting away and getting shot means there's an infinite amount that also did, the sound cue cutting from Jason and Amanda to Jason and Amanda, Leighton dancing around to Prince (must be something too). If the ampoules is tru then it isn't a mistake. That's the big twist of this whole show.

My theory is that Amanda has been grooming Jason 2 to settle down and live in one of the few worlds they have left. But if I were them I'd be seeking out the Ryans of these worlds to see if he's pre-disposed to replicating more ampules. Just in case.

5:17 I think fugitive Jason was an imposter Jason 2b from another world besides fugitive Jason world. He couldn’t get along with Daniella and lashed out at some point. Besides tfw fact, I think there is another Jason running around with Amanda.

@@gene1star trying to use Jason 2b to describe the Jason that was messed up and went to prison or fugitive Jason. I think it was a world where Jason 2b took Jason 1b just like main Jason and swapped… The relationship went bad with the wife and who knows what else based off what I’ve seen from Jason 2 so far… my guess is my theory of Jason 2b or fugitive Jason went bunkers and eventually ended up getting divorced and locked up. Edit: Jason 2 looks like he’s headed in a similar direction, although I don’t think it will happen or at least not soon.

I am having a hard time with this. I m now on ep 2 and I ve seen a lot of Sci fi over the years. 2 things that are the same ( 2jasons) space should create a paradox and thus repelling each other. everywhere I saw, they all had a problem because of it. Harry Potter, 12 monkeys ( really talked about it).... Why isn't it a problem here? Is it that unrealistic or is there exceptions?

Is 12 Monkeys worth watching? I watched the first 1 or 2 episodes a while ago but it felt a bit formulaic, and not quite sci-fi since it seemed to mostly take place in a present day timeline, so I didn’t stick with it. But I’m so starved for sci-fi content, I’m thinking of giving it another watch.

They haven't done "time" travel yet. Only moving between universes where central characters existed. Would spice things up if Jason learns how to time travel when he returns to his world finding the door block .. and able to fixed all the mess Jason 2 did
