Let's see if KZbin will allow me to post a link on my own video (usually, any comment where I post a link gets deleted immediately). I've posted some more photos and measurements of the chipset fan mounting location on the Asus forums. The thread is: rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?128977-X570-Crosshair-VIII-Hero-Need-Replacement-VRM-Fan Basically, in case anyone wants to try mounting some alternative heatsink/fan thing on the chipset, the mounting holes are about 47mm apart in a rhombus (not a square) and there's a total of 1/2" (12 mm) space between the motherboard surface and the top of the existing shroud around the heatsink fan. With the graphics card being right above that, I doubt you could get any more space.

You can find this sparepart on some laptop, it's only 2/3$ and just remove from fan cases an put it on motherboard. It can be from HP Laptop (Hp Elitebook 2740P), it has same spec same cable etc just not full black color.

Same motherboard. Chipset was reporting 93 degrees for chipset temp. Took it apart and no thermal pad on the chipset heatsink... Installed a thermal pad, replugged the fan and re assembled. Fan no longer running or reporting lol - turned out to to be because chipset temp now too low. Doesnt turn on until 58 C lol.

Interesting. Or should I say interestingly crap from Asus. I've got the same problem with my x570 TUF, and got the same reply from Asus support just this week. I bought the KSB0405HB F0D from digikey. However the amperage on it is the same 0.44A. However it has no plug, and I am therefore not sure how to wire it. Did you try deshrouding the fan and seeing what the temps were with the fan off and passive cooling? My graphics card completely covers the fan anyway so it's just drawing in hot air from the gpu with the shroud on. Thanks for such a detailed and no-BS video!

Same motherboard and I have the same problem. I planned on just ordering a new fan if possible or just replacing the board because it is really annoying.

I guess I'd suggest chatting with Asus Technical Support and see if they'll send you the fan. Maybe they'll go off-script and do it. If they do, let me know and I'll try chatting with them again. It's just ridiculous that I've got a $350, top-of-the-line motherboard lying in pieces here because a $15 fan is keeping me from using it. I've replaced it with a Asus ROG Strix B550-I Gaming motherboard which I already had, but most people don't have that option.

I have 3 x 360 rads so even when functioning correctly the chipset fan is loudest part of my system. :/

Do you happen to have a recording of the fan being bad? I bought this motherboard for $250 used last month and the fan sound is there but not prominent as it’s drowned by some other sound in the place.
@nquezernatie56502 жыл бұрын
Sorry. No, I didn't record the sound it was making. But, up until about a week or so ago, I didn't even notice the fan. The board was in a Fractal Design Define R6 USB-C case (a big case with a lot of sound dampening) with 3 Noctua NF-A14 case fans and NF-D15S cooler. So, it was basically silent. Out of the blue, the chipset fan started making a rasping, scratching, almost grinding sound. It wasn't all that loud, but it was bothersome. Over time it got worse. A couple of months ago, I built an ITX computer. Initially, I used an Asus ROG Strix X570-I Gaming motherboard. The chipset fan on that was so bad that, within minutes of turning it on, I disassembled the computer and returned the motherboard. The sound was like a handheld vacuum cleaner at arm's length. I replaced it with the B550-I that I'm currently using in place of the C8H. And, even though it also has one of those chipset fans, it's actually inaudible. The fan will periodically spin up for a bit, but usually the whole thing is silent. I had been hoping Asus would refresh their lineup to not use case fans (like Gigabyte did with their X570S line). But, I finally gave up on them.

@@nquezernatie5650 I've managed to order 2 of these fans from two different vendors on aliexpress (exact same model number) and while it said 2 months I got them within 3 weeks. I placed the order pretty much when I last commented on this video because it was cheap and used the cheapest shipping option of $2. I'm not sure whether I should install it now or wait till my current one breaks, it makes a faint buzzing noise that disappears when I place the side panels on. Was honestly expecting one of them to be lost but I somehow got them both haha.

@@excaliburn9250 Can you please share the link? I only find notebook one's , they seem pretty similiar anyway but better be sure, can't hurt having a spare one just in case.

ASUS sucks at support they want me to let the motherboard fail so then I have to ship it to them and 2 weeks later get a replacement! This is the worst solution for ASUS FAILURE TO THINK AHEAD the Chipset fan is a crap idea!
