I really cherish this show's generosity of tenderness. Usually characters are grim, stoic, or maybe just angsty when their partner is in trouble, but Lisbon is so openly vulnerable when Jane is in real danger it almost hurts to watch. She isn't weak for loving him so desperately, she's strong, and it's a credit to the creators for understanding that.

I love how Lisbon really has a special relationship with Jane, if this would have happened to any of the other team members, she would have stayed professional and acted like the boss she is. But when it's Jane she's close to crying and worries of him like a friend.

When van pelt was shot, she consoled her and then when she was boarded on the ambulance, she left her. But with Jane she actually rode along with the ambulance and stayed in the hospital until Jane was awake (technically she stayed with Jane even after that to assist the investigation). Granted she also visited Van pelt at the hospital, but I think Jane being a "consultant" and it was Lisbon's duty to keep him safe since he wasn't a cbi officer, was why she was over protective.

It's obvious she loves him. I'm glad she finally stepped up and chose to leave with Pike which in turn led Jane to step up. She loved him too much and lost all hope and it was probably painful for her to be near him. But then Patrick Jane stepped up and, voila, we have this gem of a love story with a very happy ending.
