This episode showed us why Lisbon and her team were so protective of Jane, he was such a mess back then and understandably so.

You can just FEEL the dark corner of desperation Jane has surrendered to. It's clear that the only way he can even process the loss of his wife and child is to cling to the desperate hope of revenge, and like a man dangling from a cliff, we are seeing him at his most vulnerable. He's reached out and grabbed on to that goal, but he hasn't yet pulled himself up and found his balance that we see him achieve later on, when he's much more charismatic and charming. This is Jane when he's riding the knife's edge between numb and raw, and every credit goes to Simon Baker for this episode and how he portrayed a Jane that's still relatively fresh off his loss.

> You can just FEEL the dark corner of desperation Jane has surrendered to. I assume that you didn’t see the end of the pilot episode? After proving that a murderer was trying to use Red John’s MO to hide his involvement, he returns to his big house, now entirely empty of furniture, except for a futon underneath the bloody face on the wall, left as Red John’s signature, which is where Jane clearly sleeps every night.

Teresa Lisbon saved Patrick Jane. She didn't just keep him anchored and loved, she gave him back the power to protect the woman he loved from a monster. Killing Red John only ended the trauma, loving Lisbon redeemed the man Charlotte and Angela loved. His life was worth more than Red John's death, and Teresa helped him see that.

Spot on. Very insightful. I was a very big fan of the show. Never missed an episode. Sad to say, over the course of my 23 year career, I met more survivors than I could count. Early in the career, the agency I worked for established what was called the SPOC (Survivor's Point of Contact). The mission of the SPOC was to keep the victims and their families appraised of the status of the investigation (without compromising its integrity). This included the families in which a death occurred (either by homicide, suicide, accidental, natural, and/or by undetermined means [as all death cases were investigated as homicides until proven otherwise]). With that being said, I would not have given Jane the bum's rush as it was apparent he was suffering from extreme loss and extreme guilt. In the past, I'd spent an entire day with people like Jane. Not only did I witness and investigate the evil some people bestow on innocent victims but I also witnessed how it affected families, friends, loved ones, and the victims themselves.
@smurfyday2 жыл бұрын
@@repeekyraidcero Nope, you missed it. Read Tabitha's explanation again. So many people think killing someone is redemption. I guess that explains America. But Jane dared not love after RJ. He needed so much time and support to love and feel worthy again.

@@smurfyday Nice. Make a sweeping judgement of an entire country based on a TV show. Nice, ignorant little bigot. I guess that explains wherever you're from. I'm sure you'd forgive and spare someone who did to your family what red john did to Jane's. No? Does that make you "American" as well?

@@zesalesjt7797 I actually think that this flashback is one of the very very few times we see Jane not play at anything at all. In my eyes he's his most vulnerable self here because he's in too much pain to put up a charade
@VaultArchive728 ай бұрын
@@zesalesjt7797 He's surely exaggerating his mannerisms to engender sympathy but there's also a good deal of genuine emotion in there as well. This was directly after he was released from the mental institute he'd been in after he lost his family. Love how he identified that cop's insecurities and manipulated him into striking him so the dept would cave in to his requests. He saw an opportunity and formulated a pretty genius plan right then and there.

Yeah that always blows my mind when I start thinking of that,same was when I watched Bones ,I was always thinking who would say thise two will have child in 6 years, and about Mentalist and how many years past since they met ,I always thought they started working together 2 years before show started and show had 7 seasons but also 2 years time jump in season 6,so that should mean they knew each other 11 or 12 years, but in season 5 when he hallucinate his daughter she mentioned they died 10 years ago, and show had 2 years more ,plus 2 years time jump so that would mean they knew each other about 14 years right?🤣😕I always get confused
@hk69703 жыл бұрын
@@Alona2811 In a season 3 episode they talk about how at least 7 years have passed since they met.That means season 1 takes place at least 4 years after they met.And that means Jane tried to catch and kill Red John for at least 10 years.But in 6x20 Jane said he spent 8 years trying to catch Red John.It's very confusing indeed.So with the timeskip Jane and Lisbon got together at least ten years after they met.Also Jane met Lisbon one year after the death of his family.So according to the episode that you referenced Jane and Lisbon had known each other for 9 years to that point.

Sometimes a person can be locked into a situation or certain perspective... He would be waiting to have that conversation... regardless of how long it took... regardless of where he was... Regardless of whatever else is going on... It is like a groove... a rut... a track... until such time or event changes the focal point and focus he’s like a computer in a loop processing the loop into infinity or until the needed variable is found to create a answer and different outcome or function.

In Demolition Man, it was "predictively programmed" that Arnie would become president. Which may be where you actually got that idea. The mistake is just reinforcement of the projected idea.
@richardclifford0032 жыл бұрын
Exactly. As police departments are set up as paramilitary organizations, the respective department's chain of command will usually, but not always, will appear in the entryway. For state BIs, it usually starts with the barrack's commander; for sheriff's departments, it starts with the Sheriff and ends with the governor; and, with police departments, it starts with the chief, then to the mayor, and ends with the governor. With federal agencies such as within the DOJ or the agency I worked for, the list was much, much longer.

This episode absolutely kills me the way you see Jane being simultaneously vulnerable and broken but also just ridiculously clever and manipulative. Like is the way he presents himself pretty genuine? Is he really as screwed up and lost as he seems? I'd say yes. But is he also very deliberately playing all of these people to get what he wants? Also yes. He clearly thinks through how he's going to play people but you can also see how much it's sort of second nature to him. The way it takes him like five seconds to get Hannigan to punch him in the face gets me every time, I just wanna give him a slow clap. 😂
