Kidde Wired Smoke Detector is dying! | Easy smoke detector upgrade and change | Good for 10 YEARS!

I thought I had a few more months until my smoke detectors were 10 years old. If you didn't know, you are supposed to change them every ten years, not just the batteries (every six months for those). Well it was bright and early about 6am, and my smoke detector, decided it had reached the end of its useful life, and needed to wake everyone up on the house to let them know. Why does it never happen at 5pm in the afternoon?
SO after a blinding search for the correct one, I changed the batteries, and it was still chirping, over life time. So , off to the ‪@HomeDepot‬ for new smoke and smoke/carbon monoxide detectors from ‪@KiddeFireSafetyUS‬ These things have come a long way in 10 years, the new ones are sleek and modern looking! I am sure they will do the job to protect my family and I for the next 10 years!

This was one of the first things that I "fixed" at my mom's home after my dad passed away. Got on the computer found the replacements and now I won't get a call about the smoke alarm chirping...we live 5 hours away. I also bought the long-life batteries specially made for smoke alarms and made labels with my label maker so I could read when everything was replaced from the ground. I did buy extra batteries to have on hand because her power goes out for routine BPA powerline maintenance as well as in stormy weather so depending on how often that happens, I might need to change out the batteries sooner, rather than later.

They recommend batter changes every six months, but no one actually does that, sadly. The local fire department will usually assist as well.
