Rahab asks Chise not to tell Elias that she met her, in part because she does not want Elias to know that she was keeping tabs on him. But the fact that she did not know who Chise is indicates she has not been paying that much attention to Elias!

Well not exactly. She only recently started watching him because it had been a while and she wanted to check on him. This drew the pendant in. If he was wearing it he would have likely ended up visiting her again in the way chise did. She also can’t really see beyond the target itself. You can see the magic she was using and it only shows her Elias himself with no sound. So it just shows her he’s alive and isn’t in immediate danger. It’s been at least 1 century since she last saw him or even checked on him. Chise just sort of appeared in the last year or so.

What a magical anime. If I was one of the immortal beings, I would use magic for good. Spells and potions. Self-defense against evil forces and dark magic, create illusions to camouflage or hide, disguise as something or someone to deceive, transformations, communicate spirits and fairy folks, see visions through dreams or nightmares, keep youth and beauty, and disappear into thin air. Ride on a flying broomstick, a dragon, a pegasus, a griffin, or any winged creature for transportation. Those things could be fun. Most mages, witches, wizards, sorcerers, and sorceresses have cats, owls, bats, and familiars as their assistants and guides with wits, enthusiasm, wisdom, and knowledge.

Rarely i see the feel of ancient otherworldness and at the same time lightheartness done as good as Rahab. When you know the story of Elias and Lindel, and how Rahab is disconnected from the normal flow of time, you start to see how absurdly "old" she really is. But she doesn't feel threatening... but i have no doubt that if she felt need... well, I doubt she did earn the name "demon of the sea".
