This is my exact story/feelings on life as I’m turning 25. I’m Caribbean, and it’s the same thing. I also don’t talk to my dad, and most of my family. Growing up and basically raising myself has made me a strong ass woman. I’ve put myself through college, left home at 17 because of the abuse, and toughened up. I had to learn how to survive, and it’s only God. This talk was too real because I can relate 100%. Anyone reading this and dealing with the same thing, just know you’re a stronger than you think. God got your back, and ALWAYS do what’s best for you. You will fall on your ass sometimes, but know it will all work out. Thank you Susie!

This is so relatable! I grew up in a African house hold (Sierra Leonian)and you told no lies. I hate to say it but the African community can be the most toxic people. I have a few “aunts”and “uncles” that talk so reckless and it’s crazy they get a pass because they’re elderly. I’ve been keeping my distance from a lot of family gatherings just to avoid the negativity. It seems like everyone has an opinion on your life but no one wants to actually help smh.

Honestly, I relate to this so much. People look at me like how could I be so harsh to my family and cut them off but those be the ones that hurt you the most. I’m glad I got to this mindset at 19. I did kind of hurt me at once but god blessed me with amazing supportive friends.

Most African families in general have a way of making people feel like they are not enough. I am 28 now and it wasn’t until I was 23 that I realized they will never be pleased and you have to live your life for you and no one else.

Love your energy. You live for you and your happiness and I never see a lot of Nigerian adults doing that. It’s like we live and die for our parents satisfaction. Granted we should want the people that sacrificed a lot for us to be pleased with us but at the end of the day when they pass, we will still have to move on, live, and be happy. So make choices YOU can live with. Great vid!

Being Nigerian is amazing but we have so many issues we need to work through in our community especially with the older generation, I got to this point from the age of 15 - I have been the 'black sheep' of the family because I refuse to put my internal happiness at stake just to conform. It gets lonely but I am happy and I am enough for myself!

(My essay) I am Haitian and as many know there is a lot of poverty there. Haitian parents from the countryside work very hard to send their kids to school; you know those countries you pay out of pocket for everything. So they grew this mentality that you need to be the best. You need to be a doctor. You need to be a lawyer. And because the villages are so small and close everyone knows your business. So parents become ashamed of certain things there children do or do not do. They want to be seen in a good light. And it hurts when parent put so much on their children and compare them. Since I could remember my mother was always talking about other people's kids and why couldnt I do this, or that. And from a young age I let them know how much that hurt. I never felt the love I was looking for from my parents. Mostly my father and it made me turn to men for love. The environment I grew up in made me love the wrong people. I too was hurt and taken advantage of. There are a lot of hurt, ignorant, broken people in this world who become bullies. And we have to teach our kids they ARE good enough. No matter what people say and you dont have to have this or that to be valued. We need to speak to our kids about reality a lot more and show them the love they need. Because not everyone loves the same. Im glad I found you. You little baddie. I found you from your BBL story and I've been watching a couple videos today. Good job beauty. Im getting BBL one day, Im literally built like an upside down triangle. Big boobs. No ass/hips. Been that way since birth. No amount of gym will help, been there, done that. Have a good day gorgeous.

I know this video old & you might not see this but I literally love this story ❤️ I totally can relate & understand your story . Since the age of 12 and coming from a Congolese/African household I had to always had “please everybody” and it would get annoying . Me and my mom had are own issues because she had always been judgmental about my looks, life and things I do. Everything I do my mom has something NEGATIVE to say. Family members would continuously say “she’s your mom listen to her” but mothers don’t downgrade there kids . She would also compare me with other friends/ cousins . I got into it with other family members because I didn’t tolerate there disrespect it and they would call me disrespectful because I didn’t tolerate the rude things they said about me. They like to act like they know me and act like they think they everything about me by saying I’m not doing enough like whole time I am. uncles and aunts physically touched me and my mom will still find a way to blame it on me. I have to apologize because I’m the “child” when they were in the wrong also. Everybody hates me and now I’m like idrc to please anyone I could care less . Honestly when I get 18 I’m going be very very distant when it comes to my family. They always big to say “we’re family” but it doesn’t feel like family it feels like toxic & judgmental crowd of people. I’m literally so inspired by you and been following for 3 or 4 years now . This story made me be inspired more by you and your life .

Randomly watching your old videos, and I needed to hear this chit chat! Growing up in an African household (even African American) can be so toxic. I’m a makeup artist and inspiring hairstylist and my father puts me down about what I want to do 24/7. It reached a point where I said fuck it and gave up because I started to believe everything he said. My family use to always tell me I need to go to school and do this and that to make my parents happy, but doing those things weren’t going to make me happy. Just recently I started believing in myself and focusing on what I want for ME. You’re one of my favorite beauty influencers because I feel like I can relate to you in so many ways! Keep growing and flourishing bbygirl💕

I really really appreciate this video. I'm currently going through with my parents and as the oldest I guess my mom can't let go but she's doing it in a complete negative way. I'm 20 and currently in a serious relationship and BC of that my mom hounds me and through church in to justify and try to make it seem that I'm living life horrible. And I relate to the love part, didn't really feel loved (other than my sibling) until my fiance so again I thank you for making this video. The story between my mom and I goes deeper than that so it's just kind of bad right now

Ugh yes sis!! It's not what they say but how they state it. It's an argumentative tone and mannerism. It's like if they would speak in a more assuring voice.. This video specifically has shown me that I need to put myself first and trust in God because nobody can interfere with our relationship. At the end of day, I decide what affects my mind and well being, therefore that change will start with me. Thank you for being such an inspiration to me and teaching me that I cannot be perfect and my imperfections are perfections to God as he continues to watch over me everyday.
