The thing about this man that astonishes me the most is not his versatility or musicianship, but his ability to always keep it fresh, to be innovative and original in ways we've never seen. Is like if Guthrie had multiple personalities, but all of them are genius musicians and can be chosen by his demand. As a huge fan myself, the only thing I'd do if I saw him would be saying "thanks", simply because I feel he's the type of guy that truly understands pure gratitude.

Guthrie knows theory but he's so low-key, and his way of explaining is very modest and friendly He doesn't seem like: "Hey look i know complex theory, i'm so genius, different and hip, screw blues and pentatonic are for newbs" unlike many prog/tech-shred metal players i've known :P

ok, sOOoo [I'll try to put this in written form]...since the bass riff is going 4/4 then the guitar riff can be grouped as 6 quarter notes in triplets in 4/4. [or at least that's the way I understood it and the way Guthrie counted from 2:39-44]...meaning that both instruments pulses are at the quarter note; it's just that Guthrie is grouping the quarter note in triplets.Following that path...basically, I guess, I don't understand how he sees it as 4/4 [bass] over 6/8 [guitar]..Need help to understand this one guys :(
@jonathanguete5083
@jonathanguete5083 9 жыл бұрын
Luis I think he's actually going 12/8 with the bass and the guitar riff it's in 6/4. This 2 share the quarter note (12 quarter notes per measure), they group them differently. In the 12/8 you have 4 pulses of 3 quarter notes each, and in the 6/4 you have 6 pulses of 2 quarter notes each. This 2 time signatures fall together in the first pulse of each measure.Hope you understood, ask if didn't :)

I love and truly appreciate Guthrie's playing but I was just wondering if you guys think that the band around the strings is cheating? I want to get one but whenever I see one I feel like it's an unfair advantage.
@rafaelsg7964
@rafaelsg7964 4 жыл бұрын
Shreddie Herger cheating? Imagine if someone said "using an amp is cheating, like you should only play acoustic guitars". Or even "using 7 strings is cheating, the standard technique dictates the use of only 6", or maybe "using a guitar is cheating, real musicians should be able to whistle their solos"... The question is, do you care about music, ie the results? or aren't you really interested in some silly imaginary game?

it’s not like the fret wrap changes your playing ability lol. it stops the minute quiet ringing of the other strings while you play. You don’t use them all the time just when doing really technical fast shredding stuff
@bardsamok9221
@bardsamok9221 2 жыл бұрын
@@alexjackson8841 no it doesn't. If I'd did that then open chords wouldn't work. It stops headstock string noise. And no it's not cheating. Is a guitar strap cheating?
@alexjackson8841
@alexjackson8841 2 жыл бұрын
@@bardsamok9221 No my friend, It does what i said it does. Guthrie is playing open chords because he isn’t currently, hence why it’s behind the nut not in use. The fret wrap only does what it’s supposed to do when you bring it down past the nut so it can mute the strings, and when you don’t want to use it you just keep it behind the nut where Guthrie is keeping it in this video. Literally google it, youtube it, or ask anyone…
