What feature do you think is essential in chivalry 3?

I would like the armor to be separate from the health, destructible armor that does not regenerate. So essentially when your armor is depleted it is also knocked off your body, similar to how Fallout 4 power armor is removed when depleted.

A tug of war game mode Proximity chat First person only lobby servers 20v20v20 (3 team game mode) Ranked Some more physics would be cool (like if you jump off a high point and come down with a overhead if does extra damage and swag points) And some sort of mega big team battle where it’s two castle/forts and it’s a mix of attack and defending. VIP in both castles, and your VIPs can leave the castle to go on offence if they wanted.

First of all: great ideas. About the jumping overhead, it doesn’t work like that irl. I’ve seen some tests and, for the majority of weapons, it doesn’t help to cut or chop anything. That’s because one of the main things that interfere on a cut is the edge alignment, which is lost while falling. As far as I remember, only spears pierce more with a jumping attack.

@@bobbythorton7693 Hell yeah, I like it! I saw footage of a special 100 player battle to honor Soter Dave, and it looked really fun. Some maps might be broken but hey with some fine tuning for the next game, I bet we could have some serious battles on our hands and if they added longer timers for objectives.

@StridahsAngels pre-scripted big events like in battlefield would be very possible in a chiv game. Destruction could be physics based on a small scale when it comes to environment. The big issue with physics on characters would feel completely random. An attack would have to be done/calvulated on client, sent to the server to verify and then multicasted to all other clients so as soon as you have any sort of ping fuckery would follow. Its just to many calculations for both client and server to handle in a reliable and predictable way. In competative multiplayer where milliseconds count its hard to get it done well. But things like motion matching would make all the movements feel more realistic and fluid while still being somewhat performance friendly.

I think one major thing I'd wanna see is just the game detecting at which speed the blade hits the opponent. It always felt off to me how a super slow drag where the blade travels at like 1 mph wrecks my character just the same as an accell that flies so fast I can barely track it with my eyes. Having the game account for this stuff by maybe having bonus or reduced damage output depending on the velocity at which blade and target collide would be cool to see. The cool thing abou this is it doesnt require any complex syncing between the players as it'd just affect damage values, not the actual physics themselves so implementation would be comparatively simple.

The horse running into a wall example is very interesting. Even adding only one or two of these types of interactions would really make those giant battles feel more real. To an extent, chiv 2 does that with the physics of the impact of catapults and cannons, but those usually end up killing anyone in the blast radius anyway. Imagine half of those flying bodies survived. Perhaps with a limb or two less. A guy crawling with 1 arm and 1 leg still stabbing a guy in the foot, sending him tumbling and knocking the guy next to him over.. Lot's of stuff could be made so much more interesting. If they were to increase the number of players to..let's say 128.. (or god forbid multiple hundreds like in Planetside 2, for example), you would be able to create environments where a disciplined cavalry charge in formation would actually have a function, and be able to break troop lines. Allowing access to artillery, capture points, or whatever.

Something i want to see, if two people try to tackle each other at the same time it goes into a hand to hand combat where they are trying to punch the other out or break the grapple. Also a proxy chat where you can hear whoever is near you doesn't matter if they are on your team or not.

Idk about physics. Small touches would be nice for sure. I think adding muskets with bayonets would be cool. You get a two shot on lighter aromored classes and a three on heavy armored classes, but it takes a bit of time for a reload. And you wouldn't be useless in melees bc bayonets and the clubbing attacks. Instead of the offense/defense teams something like command posts like in star wars battlefront would be cool too.

@@TheRoversX The Chinese used 'fire lances' as early as the 11th century, Mamluks and Ottomans used hand cannons about 150 years later. It's not out of the question. And it would be hilarious to have them misfire sometimes and blow up the wielder 😅

@@billybongos1337drags will still be strong unless they deal like 1 damage. but then if you change targets mid attack you will deal less damage, if you decide to attack as early as possible to hit your enemy as soon as you get in range you deal less damage. any kind of spinaroo moves (which is the only way feints can be strong in chiv 2) are also less effective. then youre left with a game where you just read feints, at which point just play for honor, its better

@@bobbythorton7693 ofc its not the same. but if you remove swing manip from chiv 2, the game becomes a terribly stripped down 64 player for honor. literally the only skill dependant mechanic that chiv 2 has is reading swing manip and performing swing manip. if you get rid of that, youre left with skyrim combat lol

If you had played Age of Chivalry (2007) built in the Source engine, there was a lot of physics in the game that were there by default. Objects in the game like tables, boxes, chandeliers, and the like all had physics were you could push and build barricades with objects within the map. Additional physics were in the player model where side straifing at the right angles could increase player running speed which if memory serves could do more physics damage. The physics in player model straifing was great for boom-N-zoom combat tactics for sprinting into a melee furball doing damage and zooming out of range. Sadly the devs thought that was a bad idea and added the toe-2-toe system which stopped sprinting once you attacked and were forced to fight. That almost killed the game till they configured it better. Much of that is still in Chiv 2. However, there was a drop down attack damage bonus, meaning that if you jumped down from an elevated location and attacked and that hit landed, the gravitational physics of that attack could 1 shot an enemy but you would of course take fall damage. The same was true with the ballistas, catapults and actually working usable trebuchets with projectile physics that could also damage walls that were destructable. That sadly have been relegated to more of a cut scene than actual physics in modern slashers.

Hello stridah, you mentioned bannerlord but it seems you have forgotten something. Bannerlord IS actually a physics based engine that is used subconsciously like you state! I am a part of our competitive dueling community, and its been fun learning how to understand the system and taking advantage of it in a comp setting, including its positives and negatives. For example, weapon speed acts as a multiplier to the base damage of the weapon, limiting the utility of drags and accelerations as they will lose a sizable amount of damage if you drag with or against the swing. Some swings will even hilt (meaning cancel because it has no speed), including stabs and regular swings if the start of the active hitbox phase of the swing begins inside of the player character, as the swing has not built up any speed. Dragging can also help improve the damage level while its in its regular phase(there is tek behind all of this with including different swing phases). Furthermore, blocks are an active hitbox that can block other types of swings if properly placed, and chambers(what you guys call counters) have to physically make contact with the swing to work, making them extremely difficult and skillful to land. There is also physics interactions with horses. Depending on the weight (which can be effected by the type of horse/armor) and the speed, it will change the amount of damage you receive as well as WHETHER OR NOT you are knocked down by the horse. Im not trying to rag on you, but halfsword is a really bad example for a balanced application of a physics based engine to a multiplayer setting. It needs to be a mixed system, or it would devolve into swinging your mouse around like a maniac, like i did when i first started playing, without readable swings. Hellish quart is a great example, but it is on the other side of the melee game spectrum that leans more towards an entirely physics based game. I think this is an idea that is thrown to the devs, but not required. Balance is key, and adding a physics engine to both swing and interactions would likely completely change chivalries combat system as well as changing the gameplay loop. TB could add it but purely for minor interactions, but I really dont think it would work well with swing mechanics. There are alot of things for bannerlord, including already what ive said, that needs a proper in depth explanation including the debate between a stamina and no stamina system. If you want, I could send you videos of how the basics work, or if you want a competitive perspective i could tell you more.

1) First and third person animations need to be synced properly. First and foremost number 1. 2) I'd like to see "sweet spot" mechanics in terms of weapon distancing and damage. Axes and maces would have much more demanding sweet spots with heavier damage on the head, and very little damage with the shaft, whereas swords would be more consistent since they have a continuous blade. 3) I'd like to see damage modifiers to accels and drags; accels should increase damage since you're swinging the blade faster, and drags should reduce damage. I think physics based calculations to blade velocity outputting damage modifiers would fit well. 4) I'd like so see collision interactions between player weapons and shields. Holding block wouldn't project a "force field," but would rather place your weapon in a defensive position with AI assistance to intercept strikes near where you are blocking. I'm thinking like Hellish Quart. Stabbing someone through their shield because they aren't holding the block button feels weird and disimmersive. 5) More complex/realistic armor functioning would be cool, but I don't know how that would do for gameplay. Knights would be completely immune to a lot of weapons if plate armor were rendered realistically.

I have thought about 2-3 quiet a bit lately. With accells and drags I actually thought an ideal damage point. Like if you go to fast you Do not get full dmg, to slow same. Or accel will become op. Thoughts?

@@StridahsAngels I think landing your strike at your crosshair rather than at the edge of your screen should do max damage. So turning into a strike to accelerate your weapon while hitting your enemy in the center of your screen would yield max damage, but hitting at the edge of your screen would do less damage. I dunno I'm just spitballing Did you by any chance ever play the Star Wars Jedi Knight II games in the early 2000's? Those two games had the best free movement PvP melee system of any game I've ever played.

You take the game one way and you lose people; you take it another direction and lose different people. It's so hard to say what would make it good. If fighting became slightly more complex with even just one more mechanic like a grab feature it would be very interesting. You could grab onto your opponents pole weapons, but maybe only after you absorb the hit with the shield, or only after a heavy attack. Or, you could grab the player and prepare for a throw, like in street fighter. It would be something new, but at a certain point Chiv would lose it's appeal by being overwhelming to new players. I think the real number one way to improve the game would have been to open it up to mod support. We would have seen what the community wanted, and what players gravitated towards naturally. We could have tapped the creative output of fans of the game. And we could have seen what worked and didn't work first hand. For example, I don't like extraction shooters, but some of the comments suggest that as a game mode. It's very popular, but they are not fun to me. So, what do I know. Imagine if only blunt weapons and heavy swords even hurt knights significantly. So like a stab would do almost nothing with a sword against a heavily armored opponent. It would just push them back. That would require stabs to be perfectly placed to hurt armored enemies. Another complex fighting mechanic. Again, what do I know. It could be great, or terrible.

The future of gaming is very convoluted. Don't forget the implications that AI generated and rendered games is going to have on the gaming industry in the coming 5 years. Nvidia believes that by 2030 games and movies will be fully generated and rendered in real time by AI. That type of tech would allow anyone to make anything. It's going to be interesting, and I don't know how traditionally developed games like Chivalry 3 are going to fit in. I mean it's possible that the entire games development industry will just die if all the consumers can just make their own virtually infinite games with a single prompt.
