Chivas Regal - 18 YO Blended Scotch Whisky

A friend picked up a bottle of this for us last night, and we were both amazed at how good it was. We both like the 12 year old, but we usually prefer single malts (Lagavulin 16 being one of our favorites) and this blew us away with how rich and smooth it was. Definitely recommended.

@DaemoniumCC We have to agree with you on that. Until we shot this segment we had never tried the 18 YO, generally preferring single malts also, but we were amazed at how good it was. Next time you are out and about, step it up one more notch and try the 25 YO...we rate that as one of the best whiskies we have ever tasted and the 18 is very close behind. Thanks for the comment.

@olaguma Yes the 18 YO is also right up there with the 25. Not quite as smooth and without the strong florals but still a magnificent drop.

I never understood people who shut on blends and talk about how superior SMs are. As the man says, they're different. I've had shut malts and great blends and vice versa. I think the biggest thing with SMs is that they're more expensive. That's why they're desirable. Wait until single grain whiskies hit the market people will clamor for them because they're expensive.

Can't disagree with that. Fanboys really can be annoying at times. There's a lot of good single malts and blends (Chivas 18, JW Platinum, Naked Grouse, Black Bottle) out there, and what you choose depends on what you personally prefer. And there's a lot of bad and overpriced ones too. Chivas 18 is a good value. Then you may prefer other flavors, or dislike blends, but you have to give credit where it's due.

I can confirm that Chivas 18 DOES contain E150a Caramel colouring.

This is a very good whisky in my opinion. A particularly fruity one, especially pineapple on the nose. Lovely flavour.

@SingleMaltTv Unfortunately no, and good scotch is pretty hard to find. It's not a big culture over here, and it is pretty hard to find good single malts. And when we do, it is usually double the price of what is paid in the EU and US, due to high tax rates. In any case, I would love to share a single malt with you guys if you ever come back to visit. Why get a biased person to talk about the whisky.. I mean seriously… He lost me at talking about the colour.. Chivas 18YO has E150a added to it which is a caramel colorant so I don't know who he is kidding.

Why are you spelling it as "Whiskey"? This is a scotch blend, not American, or Irish, and thus, it's a "Whisky". There is a difference, just like there's a difference between whiskies with artificial chemical colour added and those without. If I wanted to add colour to make a whisky "aesthetically pretty", I'd add a drop of cherryade.

Pros: Great Nose, Great Palate, Great Smooth taste, Third favorite Scotch, Next To Johnnie Walker Gold And Blue Label. Cons: Less Flavor Than Gold And Blue Label, But Otherwise GREAT!

I don’t get the fuzz about it being artificially coloured...it’s a moderate price good whisky, you can’t ask for perfection at this range. Choosing the right color for a product is not a minor detail anyway.

Well, that's only true if you have a palate and nose only capable of discovering a couple of flavors at a time (or only drank Johnnie Walker Red / Black). As the introduction made a good job of mentioning that, it's just different.

Exactly. It could be neon green it wouldn't matter when they add color.however you do use all your senses to enjoy a nice dram,nose,taste,appearance. So I think it adds to the over all experience. That being said not impressed at all with this blend.
